Electrician

Position Details The current vacancy is 8 hours per day, 12 months per year, located at the Facilities, Maintenance, & Operations (FMO) Department. BASIC FUNCTION Under direction of the Director of Facilities, Maintenance and Operations, perform journey‑level skilled electrician work in the planning, installation, maintenance and repair of electrical distribution systems, equipment and associated components, and in the installation, troubleshooting, repair and programming of the digital lighting control system hardware and software. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES Oversee, install, test, maintain, and repair and replace a variety of complex electrical equipment and controls such as transformers, clock and lighting circuits, electrical control equipment and controls, conduit and duct systems, motorized bleachers and backboards and other various types of electrical lighting and power equipment. Plan, coordinate and lead other trades in the installation of portable classrooms and restrooms throughout the district. Design, oversee, and install underground, interior and exterior conduit for electrical distribution systems; data, telecommunications and electronic alarm systems. Design, oversee, and install interior and exterior electrical wiring systems. Train and familiarize district custodians in the proper selections and ordering of various types and uses of light bulbs. Analyze electrical failures problems, isolate troubles and formulate remedies for defective components, including computerized lighting controls, the digital lighting controls hardware and software. Interpret electrical plans and specifications and check for conformity with electrical code, state regulations and safety orders; perform various electrical functions in the construction of facilities; inspect completed work for compliance to applicable codes and standards. Oversee the proper operation, testing and repair of the electrical systems for gymnasium bleachers and basketball backboards. Troubleshoot a 12,000 volt high voltage system; test and replace high voltage fuses. Estimate time and material costs for electrical projects, maintenance and repair. Order supplies and maintain related work records; prepare reports related to work completed and materials used. Perform locating activities of underground electrical cable, telecommunication cables, conduits, water lines and gas lines. Train and provide work direction to other assigned staff as needed. Perform surveying for proper grading of portable buildings using engineering level transit. Operate a trencher, bobcat and other equipment as assigned. Coordinate and perform ground rod reading and testing with the District inspectors. Perform related duties as assigned. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by an approved apprenticeship or other formal training program and five years experience in electrical installation, maintenance and repair. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS Valid General Journeyman Electrician License as required by the State of California Division of Apprenticeship Standards. Valid California driver’s license. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES Knowledge of Proper methods, materials, tools, testing and monitoring devices and equipment used in the electrical and other trades. Training, oversight and supervision needs of maintenance workers in the electrical field. Proper use of high voltage test instruments and hot stick equipment. Design, construction, installation, repair, and maintenance of complex electrical systems. Electrical and electronics theory and practices. Programming and updating of computerized lighting controls. Operation and repair of gymnasium bleachers and basketball backboards. Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures. Math and measures applicable to the electrical trade. Proper methods of ordering and storing parts, supplies and equipment. Basic record‑keeping techniques and procedures. Appropriate safety precautions and procedures. Oral and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Technical aspects of field of specialty. Proper lifting techniques. Ability to Perform skilled electrical work in the installations, maintenance and repair of a variety of electrical and electronics devices, systems and equipment. Train, supervise and lead maintenance workers in electrical installation and repair. Operate tools, equipment and materials of the electrical trade and other trades. Perform accurate electrical measurements. Plan, design and lay out electrical projects and work. Perform hardware installation, programming and troubleshooting of digital lighting controls. Program and update computerized lighting control systems. Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical and its associated electronics device malfunctions. Operate and repair electrical and mechanical functions of gymnasium bleachers and basketball backboards. Work from technical manuals, shop drawings, wiring diagrams, electrical blueprints, schematics, specifications and catalogs. Perform preventive maintenance on electrical and emergency backup system circuitry. Estimate parts and equipment needed to complete assigned projects. Work independently with minimum direction. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain a cooperative and effective working relationship with others. Observe and maintain safety precautions and procedures at all times. Maintain routine records. Perform moderate to heavy physical labor. WORKING CONDITIONS Environment Indoor and outdoor environment.
