Plumbing EstimatorThe Plumbing Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates and proposals for plumbing installation, replacement, service, and project work. This role reviews plans, specifications, scope of work, labor requirements, materials, equipment, and project conditions to develop detailed project estimates.The Plumbing Estimator works closely with the Plumbing Department, project managers, field personnel, vendors, subcontractors, customers, and other team members to ensure estimates are complete, accurate, and aligned with project requirements. This position supports the transition of awarded work from estimating to the field and helps ensure customer expectations, project scope, pricing, and timelines are clearly communicated.Key ResponsibilitiesReview plans, specifications, drawings, and scope of work for plumbing projectsPrepare detailed estimates for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and other project costsPerform quantity takeoffs and determine required plumbing materials and equipmentObtain and compare pricing from vendors and subcontractorsDevelop accurate and competitive project proposals and quotesIdentify project requirements, exclusions, potential risks, and areas requiring clarificationCoordinate with the Plumbing Department to confirm labor requirements, installation methods, and project conditionsWork with vendors to obtain material pricing, availability, and lead timesReview bid documents and communicate questions or discrepancies before submitting estimatesMaintain organized records of estimates, quotes, vendor pricing, and supporting documentationEnter and maintain estimate information in company systemsAssist with revisions, change orders, and updated project pricing as neededCommunicate with customers, general contractors, vendors, and internal team members regarding project scope and pricingParticipate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project walkthroughs as neededProvide a complete and detailed handoff of awarded projects to the Plumbing Department and field teamCommunicate project scope, customer expectations, and timelines to appropriate team membersMaintain awareness of current material costs, labor requirements, plumbing practices, and applicable codesMeet established deadlines for estimates and proposalsSupport other estimating and Plumbing Department needs as assignedQualificationsHigh school diploma or GED requiredPlumbing, construction, or mechanical estimating experience preferredKnowledge of commercial and/or residential plumbing systems preferredAbility to read and interpret construction plans, drawings, and specificationsStrong understanding of plumbing materials, labor requirements, and project scopeStrong mathematical and analytical skillsExcellent attention to detail and organizational skillsAbility to manage multiple projects and deadlinesStrong written and verbal communication skillsProficiency with Microsoft Office and computer-based estimating or project management systemsValid driver's license with clean driving recordPreferred SkillsExperience estimating commercial and/or residential plumbing projectsKnowledge of plumbing systems, piping, fixtures, equipment, and installation methodsFamiliarity with construction plans, specifications, and bid documentsKnowledge of applicable plumbing codes and industry standardsExperience with construction estimating software preferredUnderstanding of prevailing material and labor costsAbility to identify potential project risks and scope gapsStrong vendor and subcontractor communication skillsPrevious field experience in plumbing, construction, or mechanical trades preferredWork EnvironmentPrimarily office-based with regular interaction with the Plumbing Department, vendors, customers, contractors, and field personnelOccasional travel to construction sites, project locations, and pre-bid meetingsCombination of computer work, plan review, estimating, and project coordinationMay require visits to active construction sitesExposure to construction environments, mechanical equipment, and varying weather conditions during site visitsPersonal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required when working in hazardous environmentsEducation & ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredPost-secondary education in plumbing, construction, engineering, business, or a related field is beneficialPlumbing estimating, field, service, installation, or project management experience preferredTraining or experience in estimating, customer service, project management, or construction is beneficialOngoing training in plumbing systems, codes, estimating practices, and industry standards is expectedCompensation & BenefitsCompetitive salary based on experiencePerformance and growth opportunitiesHealth, dental, and vision insurance401(k) with company matchPaid time off and holidaysTraining and professional development opportunitiesOpportunities for career advancement within the Plumbing Department
