ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Assist and anticipate the needs of the dentist and anesthesia provider with instruments, sutures, sponges and supplies according to technique, procedure and special requirements. Prepare for dental surgical cases by picking supplies and equipment, ensuring all necessary items are available and maintaining inventory and the stock room. Familiarize yourself with procedures performed and understand dentist preferences. Provide care based on the age-related and developmental needs of pediatric and adolescent patients, considering safety, educational needs, communication style and level of understanding. Assist with patient transfer from bed to gurney. Decontaminate and maintain all equipment, instruments and supplies; clean surgical rooms between cases and at the end of the schedule as directed by procedure and the RN assigned to the room. Follow the surgery center manufacturer’s and CDC guidelines for decontamination and sterilization. Takes x-rays, cleans and checks x‑ray equipment. Mix cement and other materials as required; handle suction hand‑pieces and air/water syringes. Ensure delivery of all specimens to the RN circulator in the room. Stocks and cleans rooms between cases and at the end of the schedule; assist with turnover of the OR. Assist as directed in the delivery of emergency care. Perform front desk duties and act as a patient service coordinator. POSITION REQUIREMENTS High School graduate or equivalent. Completion of an accredited dental assistant program. Current state license to practice as a registered dental assistant. One year of registered dental assistant experience. Current BLS certificate. Background and drug screening required.
