Marine Machinery Mechanic

Summary This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, US Coast Guard, Industrial Department, Mechanical Group, in Baltimore, MD. Responsibilities Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Applying a variety of methods, procedures, and techniques to layout, install, align, overhaul, repair, and maintain numerous types of marine machinery, equipment, and systems that are technically complex. Disassembling and making onsite repairs to marine equipment and machinery such as main propulsion machinery/engines, auxiliary engines, speed reduction gears and acceleration mechanisms, marine systems such as steering systems, stabilizer fin systems, weight handling equipment, such as cranes and boatdavits, anchor windlass assemblies. Installing and troubleshooting generators, clutches, shafts, propellers, cutlass bearing, struts, gauges, pumps, etc. Installing, replacing, adjusting, and setting various regulating or safety devices such as relief valves, meters, gauges, governors, and automatic alarms. Mandatory training is required which must be successfully completed and other training may occur as necessary for success in the position.
