Duties & Responsibilities: (Note: The omission of specific job duties does not preclude management from assigning specific duties not listed herein if such duties are a logical assignment to the position.) The Florida Department of Education (FDOE) has an open position that is responsible for executing the following functions:
- Provide technological training to Division and contractual staff when needed.
- Train using adaptive software which includes introduction to computer keyboard and use of various other programs such as Windows, word processing, internet, and email.
- Train staff and students on other specialty programs as well as portable note takers.
- Perform other teaching duties as assigned.
- Conduct initial evaluation of clients referred for training to determine level of skills, knowledge, and readiness for technology training.
- Maintain records of goals, participation in class, and progress of each student.
- Prepare periodic student progress reports.
- Develop lesson plans that reflect the daily objectives needed to meet established goals.
- Perform routine maintenance of equipment and supplies; keep inventory in good repair and make purchases as necessary.
- Attend workshops and conferences for professional growth; participate in public education as needed and serve as a resource person for staff, students, and the public.
- Recommend ancillary services such as audiology, low vision, and physical therapy, which would enhance students' program.
- Assist in training volunteers or interns assigned to the Center.
- Ability to communicate effectively; both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to read and follow policies, procedures and/or other instructions.
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Knowledge of theories and practices in vocational rehabilitation guidance and counseling.
- Familiarity with interviewing techniques.
- Knowledge and understanding of medical/psychological aspects of disability groups.
- Understanding and knowledge of employment resources.
- Knowledge and understanding of the techniques of teaching visually impaired.
- Ability to organize and analyze results.
- Performs other duties as requested.
- Some travel is required.
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study reasonably related to vocational rehabilitation, to indicate a level of competency and skill demonstrating basic preparation in a field of study such as vocational rehabilitation counseling; or
- Four years of professional and relevant experience in a public vocational rehabilitation program. Preference will be given to those with a bachelor's degree.
- A bachelor's or master's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Three (3) to five (5) years' experience in a public vocational rehabilitation program.
- An ability to establish and maintain education and experience requirements to ensure an understanding of the evolving labor force and the needs of individuals with disabilities.
- Knowledge of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).
- Knowledge and experience in providing direct instruction and training and the ability to develop lesson plans.
