VCS Substitute Teacher

Summary The VCS Substitute Teacher is responsible to perform the instructional and classroom management processes for teachers who are absent for a day or longer periods of time. Position Details Position Status: Part Time Classification: Exempt Duties and Responsibilities Maintains discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive learning environment for all students and staff in accordance with school and county policies. Ensures the adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students. Oversees students outside of the classroom including in the hallways, recess, and cafeteria. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Reports to office upon arrival at school; checks mailbox of absent teacher for materials requiring immediate attention; requests clarification of school rules and procedures if necessary. Reports all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible. Implements lesson plans while ensuring the integrity of academic time and motivating students to learn and participate. Organizes students for effective instruction. Dismisses all students from the classroom before leaving the building. Completes a substitute teacher report for the regular classroom teacher. Collects and places students’ papers in assigned area. Returns instructional materials, equipment, and keys to proper place. Complies with and supports school and state regulations and policies. Performs other related duties as assigned by administrator(s) in accordance with school/state policies and practices. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent certifications. Speaks English at an idiomatic level. Good communication, problem solving, and priority setting skills as well as maintaining an overall positive and professional attitude. Ability to effectively plan, organize and implement educational activities. Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology. Essential Job Functions Physical Requirements Sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, squatting, crawling, stooping, walking, and the ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Manual dexterity with the use of hands, fingers to feel objects, tools, and controls. Sighted with color, peripheral, near, and far vision. Hearing and speaking.
