Overview
Aggie Blue Bikes (ABB), a program within the Center for Community Engagement, seeks a full-time Program Coordinator I. The ABB Program Coordinator is responsible for the management, oversight and continued growth of the program. They will work as the Program Coordinator for 75% of their time and Transportation Demand Management Options Coordinator for 25% of their time. The ABB Program Coordinator is innovative and collaborative, a supportive manager of student employees in the ABB shop, and passionate about bicycling.
The Center for Community Engagement cultivates opportunities for students, faculty, staff, and members of the wider community to interact, connect, and create positive impact. Since its founding in 2005, ABB has played a key role in championing and advancing sustainable transportation at USU and throughout Cache Valley. Responsibilities
Manages daily operations and strategic planning for Aggie Blue Bikes – 45%
- Oversees the management of ABB bicycle fleet (over 250 bicycles) and student tool boards (5 student tool-boards).
- Recruits, selects, supervises, trains, and evaluates 6-10 student staff members and various volunteers.
- Tracks progress towards ABB goals and assists CCE director in the administration of the ABB funding.
- Meets at least monthly with the CCE director monthly to review progress towards ABB and CCE annual and strategic goals, refine policies, review budgets, and manage risk. Develop revisions to ABB policies and processes to increase program effectiveness.
- Enforces ABB, CCE, and USU policies and procedures for ABB student staff and volunteers. Maintains documents such as Standard Operating Procedures, training matrices, training manuals, and rental contracts.
- Oversees the purchasing for all of ABB and manages revenue from sales, fees, and university funding.
- Works to diversify ABB funding sources.
- Properly documents donations and volunteer time.
- Sets the tone and flow for shop operations.
Manages the marketing, visibility, and public relations of Aggie Blue Bikes – 30%
- Works with division IT to update website and online materials
- Orchestrates the planning of events such as Bike to Breakfast, Cranksgiving, Bike Valet, Bike Rodeos, Group Rides, and Workshops as they relate to outreach and education
- Manages publicity materials and social media accounts.
- Collects and manages photos from ABB.
- Submits nominations for member and project awards to director at annual planning meeting.
- Maintains alumni relations and contact list through social networking sites. Connects alumni with jobs and generates alumni political, financial, and volunteer support.
- Networks with other bicycle programs throughout the nation to document and publicize best practices, including travel to national conferences.
- Networks with organizations on campus and in the valley to bring greater visibility to ABB.
- Oversees the documentation of ABB history.
Serves as Transportation Demand Management (TDM) Options Coordinator – 25%
- Collects, manages, and reports data on-campus transportation conditions at the university, including a regular transportation survey
- Leads USU's effort to renew its Bicycle Friendly Status through the League of American Bicyclists every three years
- Manages and evaluates TDM services and programs that support alternatives to driving alone, such as the Utah State University Commuter Club. Assists in implementing and managing infrastructure to support transportation options including but not limited to walking, bicycling, boarding, bussing, alternative work schedules, and carpooling
- Develops, coordinates, and participates in educational programs and events that support TDM
- Serves on, and may chair, the USU Air Quality and Transportation committee
- Coordinates with the Division of Student Success, Parking & Transportation, Facilities, Sustainability Council, Employee Wellness, other USU departments, and community partners on the implementation of programs
- Supports the development and continuation of transportation amenities in support of campus and regional transportation planning efforts
- Researches and adopts technologies that support University plans
- Pursues grant and alternative funding sources for transportation projects
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree; 4 years of relevant professional experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience that includes two years of project management and supervisory experience
- Ability to effectively prioritize and juggle multiple projects
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience working in the bicycle industry or advocacy efforts
- Experience planning and coordinating events
- Previous experience writing, receiving, and managing grants
- Knowledge of Transportation Demand Management strategies
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrated passion and enthusiasm for bicycling.
- Demonstrated leadership and management experience.
- Ability to hire, train, supervise student employees and volunteers.
- Strong customer service skills and ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Excellent writing and oral presentation skills.
- Skill in critical thinking, problem-solving, and implementing new strategies and procedures based on staff and customer feedback.
- Experience in cooperative decision-making.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision, organize own work schedule, and set priorities.
- Ability to develop and maintain record-keeping systems and procedures.
- Skill in the use of computers, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment, Microsoft Suite, Google Suite
- Ability to gather data, to compile information, and prepare reports.
- Ability to develop, plan, and implement short and long range goals.
- Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management.
- Familiarity with power tools and other shop equipment.
- Some mechanical aptitude.
- Willingness to learn bicycle maintenance and repair.

This position requires considerable physical activity. Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position including heavy lifting (up to 75 lbs.) and/or pushing and pulling of heavy objects. Employees must be prepared to assume uncomfortable positions, such as crawling, kneeling, and squatting. Employees are exposed to hazardous conditions including, noise, vibrations from machinery, moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to chemicals, elevated work spaces, such as scaffolding, and atmospheric conditions that can affect the respiratory system, such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and poor ventilation.
