Central Sterile Tech I

The Central Sterile Tech I is responsible for assembling instrument baskets, basin sets, and equipment according to established checklists, ensuring they are ready for sterilization. This role includes the assembly of supplies and instruments utilized in various clinical settings, as well as checking items for cleanliness and functionality, such as the sharpness of scissors and the smooth movement of hinged instruments.

Key responsibilities include:

• Assemble baskets of instruments, sets, and equipment for sterilization using appropriate checklists.
• Assemble sets of supplies and instruments required for various clinical procedures.
• Decontaminate, disinfect, and thoroughly clean supplies, instruments, and equipment.
• Distribute instruments, equipment, and supplies to the appropriate locations.
• Monitor and maintain adequate levels of supplies and equipment.
• Identify and report equipment malfunctions; perform minor repairs as necessary.
• Demonstrate proficiency in the reprocessing and maintenance of endoscopic equipment following high-level disinfection policies and manufacturer instructions.
• Maintain and check scope washers and washer adapters for detergent levels and disinfectant effectiveness.
• Communicate effectively about equipment repairs, loans, supplies, and quality improvement information while maintaining complete documentation.
• Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as per policy and maintain necessary cleaning supplies.
• Accurately record data in appropriate logs and documents.

Required skills and experience:

• No prior experience is required; however, if the position is located at a designated facility, nine months of experience as a sterile tech is required.
• If a candidate is a graduate from a sterile processing school, no experience is necessary.

Preferred skills and experience:

• Minimum of one year of sterile processing experience.

Education requirements:

• No specific educational requirements as long as other position qualifications are met.

Certifications & licensure:

• None required.

Schedule:

Standard working hours for this position are from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
