Job Description

The Machine Operator sets up, runs, and maintains cold forming equipment to produce high-quality parts in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role focuses on safe and efficient machine operation, precise measurement and inspection, and mechanical troubleshooting to keep production running smoothly.

Responsibilities

• Set up and prepare cold forming machines for daily production, ensuring all components and tools are properly installed and ready for operation.
• Perform pre-operation checks on machines, including visual inspections and functional tests, to confirm safe and efficient operation.
• Oil and lubricate machines according to preventive maintenance procedures to reduce wear and maintain performance.
• Monitor machine pressure gauges and other indicators, making adjustments as needed to maintain proper operating parameters.
• Start, operate, and stop machines in accordance with standard operating procedures and safety guidelines.
• Conduct regular part inspections at specified intervals using micrometers, calipers, and engineering drawings to verify dimensions and quality standards.
• Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to ensure parts meet required specifications.
• Identify production or equipment issues and troubleshoot mechanical problems to minimize downtime.
• Perform basic mechanical repairs and adjustments to machines, including aligning, tightening, and replacing parts as needed.
• Carry out preventive maintenance tasks on cold forming machines, CNC equipment, drill presses, screw machines, and related machinery to maintain reliability.
• Support machining and assembly operations by ensuring machines are correctly set up and producing parts to specification.
• Document inspection results, maintenance activities, and any adjustments or repairs performed on equipment.
• Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to improve machine performance, product quality, and overall efficiency.
• Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while working around oily, greasy, and loud machinery, maintaining a clean and organized work area.
• Assist with quality inspection activities to ensure all finished parts meet manufacturing standards before moving to the next process.

Essential Skills

• Proven machine operator experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Hands-on manufacturing experience with production machinery such as cold forming machines, CNC equipment, drill presses, and screw machines.
• Inspection experience using micrometers and calipers to measure and verify part dimensions.
• Strong mechanical experience, including the ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical issues on production equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings for machining and assembly operations.
• Demonstrated troubleshooting skills in a production or machining environment.
• Experience performing preventive maintenance on manufacturing equipment.
• Proficiency in shop math to calculate dimensions, tolerances, and adjustments accurately.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Ability to work safely and effectively around oily, greasy, and loud machinery.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in quality inspection within a manufacturing or machining setting.
• Experience with CNC operation and basic machining processes.
• Familiarity with screw machine operation and assembly processes.
• Comfort using a variety of mechanical tools and measurement instruments, including micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
• Ability to follow detailed work instructions, standard operating procedures, and maintenance schedules.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality parts.
• Effective communication skills for working with production, maintenance, and quality teams.
• Reliability and punctuality to support consistent first-shift production schedules.

Work Environment

This role is based in a large 130,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility in Addison, operating on a first shift schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The work area includes cold forming machines, CNC equipment, drill presses, screw machines, and other production machinery. Machines are oily and greasy, and the environment is loud with a noticeable smell of oils and exhaust, requiring comfort in an industrial setting and adherence to safety practices, including appropriate protective attire and gear as provided by the facility.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Addison, IL.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
