Senior Relay TechnicianDiamond Infrastructure Solutions is seeking our next Senior Relay Technician to help support St. Charles Operations in Hahnville, LA. This will be a Diamond Infrastructure Solutions Role in the SIM department as SCO. A Senior Relay Technician is responsible for the installation, testing, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and commissioning of protective relaying and associated electrical control systems used in power generation, transmission, distribution, and industrial facilities.ResponsibilitiesInstall, test, calibrate, and maintain protective relays.Perform relay commissioning and acceptance testing on new electrical equipment and systems.Lead relay upgrade projects by replacing obsolete/outdated relays with their respective new relays.Troubleshoot relay mis-operations, nuisance trips, and control system issues.Conduct routine preventive and predictive maintenance on relays, meters, CTs, PTs, and associated equipment.Review and verify relay settings, logic diagrams, schematics, and protection coordination studies.Download, analyze, and interpret event records, oscillography files, and fault reports.Perform system functional testing, including trip and close circuits, interlocks, alarms, and communications.Maintain accurate maintenance records, test reports, settings files, and as-built documentation.Support outage planning and execution activities related to protection and control systems.Assist engineering personnel with system upgrades, modifications, and root cause investigations.Ensure compliance with applicable electrical safety procedures, RED TAG MASTER requirements, and company standards.Required QualificationsA minimum of a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.A minimum of 4 years of related industry experience.Current, valid US driver's license.This is a day job utilizing an alternative work schedule. (4 ten-hour days -- Monday to Thursday).Overtime and call-outs will be required after-hours (nights, weekends and holidays), depending on work to be done.Working knowledge of current transformers (CT) and voltage/potential transformers (VT/PT) circuits and advanced relaying circuits.Working knowledge on relay testing (electromechanical, solid state and microprocessor).Knowledge of micro-processor relays.Must possess a TWIC card or be eligible to obtain a TWIC card. For information on TWIC eligibility requirements, please see: (If unable to access link, copy and paste in your browser).A minimum requirement for this position is the ability to work legally in the U.S. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including any type of permanent residency support.Preferred QualificationsWorking knowledge of substation configurations (Ring bus, breaker-and-a-half, Main-Tie-Main, etc.)Working knowledge of the Electrical Code.Must be comfortable and competent to work with energized control and protection circuits (120Vac/125VDC).Knowledge or E-Tap or Power Modelling tools is a benefitProficiency with relay test equipment and software such as Omicron, Doble, Megger, and similar platforms.SkillsProtective Relay Systems: Knowledge of protective relay principles and applications.Electrical Power Systems: Understanding of electrical power systems, including generation, transmission, and distribution equipment.Electrical Drawing Interpretation: Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, one-line diagrams, three line diagrams, and wiring diagrams.Power Equipment Knowledge: Understanding of CTs, PTs, circuit breakers, transformers, motors, generators, and switchgear.Protective Relay Technologies: Proficiency with electromechanical, solid-state, microprocessor-based, and digital relays, including communication protocols.Electrical Troubleshooting & Analysis: Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills.Physical RequirementsMust be willing and able to do the following with or without reasonable accommodation.Follow all site safety policies and procedures.Wear all required personal protective equipment, including but not limited to a respirator.Perform frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.Frequent/occasional lifting of material weighing approximately 50 lbs.Follow all site safety policies and procedures.Obtain required permits and clearances before performing work.Verify equipment isolation and electrical safe work conditions.Identify and communicate potential hazards before and during work activities.Work in tight or closed-in spaces.Climb stairs/ladders and work high off the ground.Stand 50% of the time.Walk for extended periods of time.Work in an area of intense or continuous noise.Work in an area with hazardous materials.This role does involve elevated work greater than or equal to four feet above the ground.
