Registered Nurse II (PRN) - Heart and Kidney Unit

Heart and Kidney Unit (HKU) Overview HKU is a 20‑bed unit providing family‑centered care for children and adults with cardiac and renal diseases. Patients may be undergoing heart surgery, cardiac catheterizations, dialysis, acute or chronic renal failure treatment, nephrotic or nephritic disorders, or organ transplantation. Qualifications Minimum Education: ASN (BSN preferred) Minimum Work Experience: 2 years RN experience in a comparable setting Required Licenses & Certifications: Registered Nurse in District of Columbia, CPR, BLS Required Skills/Knowledge: Clinical skills for complex patients, critical thinking, effective communication, teamwork, safety practices. Responsibilities Transformational Leadership Contribute to Magnet re‑designation by updating professional profile and participating in committees. Demonstrate critical thinking to solve problems during patient care. Communicate plan of care and advocate for patient needs. Escalate issues through chain of command independently. Use hand‑off processes appropriately. Maintain collegial and respectful relationships with ancillary staff. Implement change and support management decisions. Model empathy, concern, and assistance to others. Structural Empowerment Maintain regulatory requirements (license, BLS). Plan attendance at mandatory education and professional activities. Use resources and know when to elevate issues. Exemplary Professional Practice Use assessment data to complete database and plan of care promptly. Plan educational needs with patient and family before discharge. Demonstrate organizational skills and meet assignments on time. Show caring in all encounters, evidenced by positive feedback and satisfaction scores. Safety Speak up about unsafe behavior or performance.
