Laboratory Supervisor (New Orleans)

$90k - $120k
Full-time

Informuta

Position Title : Laboratory Supervisor

Location : New Orleans, LA

Reports To : Lab Director

Start Date : December 7, 2026

Job Type : Full-time, on-site

About the Role

Informuta is an infectious disease intelligence company that forecasts drug resistance trajectories to guide antibiotic selection with precision and quantify treatment-emergent resistance risk for the first time. Informuta uses proprietary AI and novel predictive genomic biomarkers to give clinicians the confidence to choose therapies that won't fail their most vulnerable patients - transforming antibiotic prescribing from reactive to predictive and empowering smarter, future-proofed decisions. Informuta's clinical diagnostic product focuses on bacteriology and antimicrobial resistance.

The Laboratory Supervisor leads clinical testing oversight, laboratory operations, and CAP/CLIA readiness for Informuta. This position is intended to fill Informuta's designated CAP/CLIA Molecular Pathology Laboratory Supervisor function, contingent on verification of the individual's qualifications. This on-site, operationally hands-on role oversees personnel, specimen workflow, quality systems, equipment, and laboratory performance while escalating specialty-specific technical matters to the Laboratory Director or Technical Supervisor.

This role suits an organized laboratory leader who coaches staff, maintains quality under pressure, communicates clearly, and responds effectively to urgent operational or clinical testing issues.

Responsibilities

Managing clinical laboratory staff

  • Provide day-to-day supervision of qualified personnel performing high-complexity testing and reporting patient results; monitor analyses, specimen examinations, quality control, and analytical performance.
  • Be accessible to testing personnel whenever testing occurs for on-site, telephone, or electronic technical consultation under approved procedures; ensure direct on-site supervision when specifically required by CLIA for a tester's qualification pathway.
  • Manage laboratory technicians and associates. Conduct staff performance reviews, coaching, and non-technical training; when formally delegated by the Lab Director or Technical Supervisor, provide testing-personnel orientation and perform and document CLIA/CAP competency assessments.
  • Own laboratory hiring plans, capacity management, and staff schedules; recommend full-time versus shift-worker coverage based on laboratory needs.

Drive laboratory operations & CAP readiness

  • Oversee specimen accessioning, chain of custody, and sample processing in accordance with laboratory policy, including held-sample review and secondary checks.
  • Manage shipments, sample manifests/records, rejected samples, repeat requests, and other sample-workflow exceptions through resolution.
  • Lead CAP-readiness execution and day-to-day laboratory operations, including self-inspections, checklist gap analysis, and responses to citations.
  • Manage routine ordering, laboratory supplies, and equipment care and maintenance.
  • Manage customer relations and communications regarding sample issues, routing questions or technical matters to the appropriate internal owner when needed.
  • Track operational KPIs and maintain logs or issue tracking so recurring problems are visible and can drive process improvements.

Own day-to-day operations & CAP readiness

  • Monitor daily quality systems, including SOP adherence, required records, environmental controls, quality indicators, and emerging risks; escalate adverse trends promptly.
  • For responsibilities delegated by the Lab Director or Technical Supervisor, coordinate remedial action when test systems deviate from performance specifications and ensure affected patient results are not reported until required corrective action is complete and proper test function is verified.
  • Support nonconformance, deviation, and CAP investigations, including root-cause analysis and effectiveness checks.
  • Participate in authoring, reviewing, and implementing SOPs and controlled documents, and ensure testing personnel follow current approved procedures.
  • Coordinate procedural and instrument changes through approved change control, with required technical review and authorization by the Lab Director or Technical Supervisor before clinical implementation.
  • Ensure data integrity and appropriate record retention within the laboratory's LIMS/ELN.
  • Enforce laboratory safety, biosafety, and chemical hygiene practices.

Lead facilities, equipment & emergency preparedness

  • Coordinate equipment certifications and calibrations.
  • Execute and manage laboratory emergency plans.
  • Serve as the laboratory liaison to the facilities manager and coordinate facility-related needs.

Create repeatable & collaborative operations

  • Standardize operational handoffs, checklists, exception tracking, and follow-up so laboratory workflows remain repeatable and reliable.
  • Exercise sound judgment about when to solve directly, delegate, or escalate technical or higher-level issues to the Lab Director or Technical Supervisor rather than allowing blockers or quality issues to stall.
  • Collaborate across laboratory, clinical, operational, and technical stakeholders.

Qualifications & Ideal Profile

Required

  • Meets CAP/CLIA Molecular Pathology General Laboratory Supervisor eligibility through either pathway:

1) PhD or MD in a chemical, physical, or biological science plus 1 year of high-complexity testing and 6 months of high-complexity bacteriology.

OR

2) Bachelor's/master’s degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science plus 4 years of relevant laboratory experience under a qualified Section Director / Technical Supervisor. This must include at least 2 years of high-complexity testing, at least 1 of which involves molecular pathology methods.

  • Holds, or is eligible to obtain, the LSBME - Clinical Laboratory Scientist: General, Specialist, or Technologist license. ( See LSBME CLS licensure requirements in section 1323, linked below ).

->

  • Ability to document CAP/CLIA eligibility with degree records, dated relevant clinical testing experience (including complexity and molecular methods), and relevant supervisory qualifications.
  • Ability to manage detailed operational workflows, communicate clearly, follow through consistently, and resolve or escalate issues appropriately.
  • Experience coordinating people and processes across laboratory, clinical, operational, and technical stakeholders.
  • High ownership and comfort building or improving operating systems rather than waiting for fully defined processes.

Strongly preferred / ideal profile

  • At least 4 years of experience in a CAP/CLIA-certified or accredited molecular pathology laboratory.
  • At least 2 years of management experience in a CAP/CLIA-certified or accredited clinical laboratory.
  • Experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS) workflows is strongly preferred but not required.
  • Helped build or prepare a CAP-ready laboratory.
  • Led or participated in laboratory inspections.
  • Prior laboratory-developed test (LDT) experience; relevant research experience is a plus.

Traits that matter

  • Highly organized with strong follow-through and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Good judgment; understands when to solve directly, delegate, escalate to the Lab Director, or hand off to the Technical Supervisor.
  • Clear, confident, precise, and honest communicator who surfaces problems directly and works effectively with staff, leadership, and CAP inspectors.
  • Strong mentor who develops staff capabilities, documents training, and supports cross-training and succession planning.
  • Calm under pressure, independent and adaptable when working in ambiguity.
  • Strong context switching and time management.
  • Available for defined after-hours laboratory needs and able to plan appropriate qualified supervisory coverage during testing.

Compensation Package

  • Base Salary: $90-120k annually with eligibility for performance/milestone-based bonuses.
  • Equity: 0.2-0.4% in incentive stock options
  • Benefits:

1) Health, dental, vision, and life insurance: Informuta pays 100% of employee premiums. Informuta pays 50% of eligible spouse or one dependent premium (health, dental, and vision only).

2) 401(k) plan & matching: SIMPLE 401(k). Full employer match for the first 3% of the employee's annual gross salary. 50% employer match for the next 2% of annual gross salary employee contributions.

3) Discretionary PTO
