Surgical Technician

Performs direct and indirect technical tasks for patients before, during, and after surgical interventions.

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Initiates changes to physician preference list and assures that team members are aware of changes. (25%)
2. Maintains the inventory for the service area assigned. (20%)
3. Performs sponge, needle, and instrument count. (15%)
4. Orients new team members to assigned service area. Directs the work of lower level surgical technicians. (15%)
5. Assists in setting up the surgical operating suite with appropriate instruments and supplies. (15%)
6. Scrubs in prescribed manner, hands physician instruments required during surgery. (10%)
7. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications:

Minimum

• One year certificate from a college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred

• 3 years surgical scrub specialty experience

Additional Employment Requirements:

• Surgical Technologist (ST) hired after 12/29/2020 require one of the following:
  • Education and Certification: Accredited Surgical Technologist program completion and nationally recognized certification (CST, TS-C) within 6 months of hire. Military programs accepted.
  • Pre-existing Employment: Employment as a surgical technologist by this facility before 12/29/2020, or at another facility within the two years prior to 12/29/2020.
• CPR American Heart Association
