Job Description

The purpose of this classification is to perform skilled maintenance, fabrication, overhaul and repair of mechanical equipment located within a water, wastewater, pump stations, lift stations and treatment facilities as a fully competent plant maintenance mechanic, working independently in diagnosing problems and facilitating repairs.

This classification is safety sensitive, subject to random drug testing in accordance with the County's Drug & Alcohol Policy.

Essential functions include reviewing system designs, specifications, and products, attending pre-construction meetings, recommending changes in water/wastewater facilities mechanical systems, troubleshooting problems, recommending corrective actions based on skilled knowledge of mechanical repair practices, performing preventative maintenance and corrective repair work on water/wastewater facilities and equipment, fabricating and machining repair parts for equipment, welding steel, brass and aluminum, operating lathes, mill/drill presses, welders and various other metal working power and hand tools, locating leaks and detecting defects in water/wastewater equipment and machinery according to established plans and standards, monitoring, reviewing and validating work practices for quality control of processes and to ensure adherence to safety standards, monitoring and training entry level crew members on safety methods and standards, and inputting and gathering data from Supervisory Control Data Acquisition system (SCADA) and running reports as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required; three years of experience in industrial maintenance preferably in a water and/or wastewater treatment facility; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license; must obtain a State of Georgia CDL Class B License within six months of employment.
