Staff Bioinformatics Scientist -- Oncology/MRD Algorithm Development

Illumina seeks a Staff Bioinformatics Scientist to develop algorithms for detecting minimal residual disease in cancer samples using next-generation sequencing data. The role focuses on algorithm innovation, biomarker detection, and collaboration across internal and external teams within the oncology space.

Responsibilities

Prototype novel NGS algorithms for clinical oncology applications including minimal residual disease detection
Assess and improve existing secondary analysis algorithms for variant and biomarker detection
Design and analyze experiments in collaboration with internal and external teams to support oncology assays
Provide technical guidance to internal and external collaborators on algorithm development
Participate in cross-functional R&D teams and communicate plans and results across functions

Requirements

PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, statistics, mathematics, or related field with 3+ years industry experience
Fluency in at least two of: statistics, common bioinformatics methods, NGS analysis, or oncology
Proven track record developing bioinformatics NGS algorithms beyond existing tools
Fluency in Python; C++ experience desired
Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder engagement

Compensation: $155,600 - $233,400 base salary
