Apprentice (Civil Engineering Technician) Are you interested in designing and building things? Are you passionate about shaping the world around you? Then an Apprenticeship as a Civil Engineering Technician could be for you! Civil engineering is a profession that deals with the planning, design, development, and management of engineering projects in a wide variety of disciplines covering both the physical and natural environment. As a Civil Engineer, you will improve and protect the environment in which we live, and it is a career where you can really make a difference. An Apprenticeship in Civil Engineering with Durham County Council gives you the opportunity to work across our Transport Services, within Strategic Traffic Management. You will work alongside a diverse and highly skilled team that looks after approximately 4,800km of highway, 22,360 road markings, 4,000km of footways, 69 sets of traffic signals, 73 pedestrian crossings, 12,500 bollards, and 63,300 unlit signs that allow our residents and visitors to go about their business. Your day-to-day duties include providing technical support to the wider Strategic Traffic team, and you will undertake various duties including work associated with urban and rural traffic, transport infrastructure design and maintenance, safety audits, design reviews, as well as sustainable transport schemes and initiatives. We will support you as you train towards a Level 3 and 4 in Civil Engineering. The structured training programme will enable you to gain experience, further education and broad base skills within Traffic Management and Transport Planning. As part of your apprenticeship, you will study towards a Level 3 qualification in Civil Engineering, progressing onto a relevant Level 4 with New College Durham. What will I need? You must either have or expect to achieve 5 GCSEs at Grades 9-4/A*-C including English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject or equivalent qualification, together with good communication and problem-solving skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
