HVAC Specialist - Facility Operations

Lead HVAC Technician

The City of Topeka is seeking a skilled HVAC professional to work as a lead technician in the facility operations division. This incumbent is responsible for planning, directing and performing a variety of work to ensure the adequate and efficient operation of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems city-wide.

What you'll do:

• Perform maintenance, modifications and repairs to a variety of HVAC systems city-wide.
• Administer HVAC service contracts and work performed by contractors.
• Serve as a lead worker and technical expert on HVAC maintenance, including training others in routine HVAC preventative tasks and safe work practices
• Maintain records, collect, compile and analyze data, and prepare reports as required.
• Perform electrical and circuitry repairs as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Graduation from high school or GED equivalent is required.
• Graduation from an accredited vocational school with specialized training in air conditioning or closely related field, is required.
• Must be a licensed refrigerant recovery system technician
• Must have three years of experience in the care and maintenance of HVAC systems with experience in maintaining commercial / industrial electrical and plumbing systems.
• Must have and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license and meet the City's insurability requirements. Please review the insurability guidelines here.
• Experience as a safety trainer / coordinator highly desired, as well as an inventory specialist.
• Must be able to pass an extensive background check, including a Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) check and KBI fingerprinting.

Entry rate of pay: $20.49 - $21.43 per hour, depending on qualifications
