At Mississippi State Hospital, you'll help people with serious mental illness stabilize, build skills and return to their communities. We're the largest facility run by the Mississippi Department of Mental Health, and we serve more than 1,300 patients a year, from adolescents to older adults. All of our service units have been fully accredited by the Joint Commission since 2000.

Our Behavioral Health Services Department includes licensed psychologists, master's-level clinicians and peer support specialists. They work alongside psychiatry, nursing, social services and recreation therapy on teams from several disciplines. Our care is trauma-informed, person-centered and focused on recovery. What you'll do

• Complete behavioral health assessments, and screen emotional and behavioral functioning, intelligence, achievement and adaptive functioning under the oversight of a licensed professional
• Provide individual, group and family therapy using evidence-based approaches such as:



• Illness Management and Recovery
• CBT for psychosis
• DBT skills
• Trauma-focused CBT
• Seeking Safety
• Anger management



• Help develop treatment plans and behavior support plans
• Track patient progress and treatment outcomes with standard measures
• Develop and lead programs, including groups in the hospital's Treatment Mall
• Take part in treatment team meetings and family conferences, and consult with psychiatry, nursing and social services
• Help with suicide risk screening and safety planning [confirm]
• Keep timely, accurate records in the electronic health record
• Mentor behavioral health technicians and practicum students, and may supervise less experienced staff

What you'll need

• Master's degree in psychology, counseling, social work, marriage and family therapy, or a related field acceptable to the hospital
• At least 3 years of relevant experience
• One of the following licenses or certifications 
• Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
• Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
• Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
• Licensed Clinical Mental Health Therapist (LCMHT)
• Licensed Certified Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Therapist (LCIDDT)
• Licensed Certified Addictions Therapist (LCAT)





• Experience with serious mental illness, inpatient psychiatry, forensic work, substance use or adolescents is a plus
• Strong skills in assessment, running groups and clinical documentation
• A good attitude, a willingness to learn and grow, and strong communication and organizational skills
• Male applicants ages 1826 must be registered with Selective Service
