Drafter II

Responsibilities Create detailed drawings and models from verbal and written specifications that are obtained from the Designer, Project Leader, Project Engineer or Drafting Manager. Research and review drawing files and other sources such as manufacturers catalogs, customer specification sheets and Union Tank Car Design Manual. Plan and prepare preliminary designs and specifications, working with both 3D and 2D design, ensuring adherence to company and industry standards. Review designs with the engineering team to identify and implement changes or additions to the current design and features. Calculate and specify dimensions, weight limitations and requirements in materials. Resolve potential issues and redesign components to improve functionality. Develop 2D drawings by analyzing prototypes and 3D models. Finalize design by checking dimensions of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts to the whole structure or project. Ensure the final design complies with regulations and quality standards. Prepare and present drawings for final review. Maintain project drawing files, associated records and documentation. Complete project responsibilities within scope, budget and schedule. Provide timely technical assistance and solutions to the team. Participate in and actively support quality projects, activities and Responsible Care initiatives to ensure that the Company achieves its goals. Provide a leadership/mentor role to our drafters. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Associate’s degree in Computer Aided Drafting and Design or related field. Minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Hands‑on experience with computer‑aided design (CAD) software. Familiarity with 3D modeling tools. Preferred Qualifications SolidWorks and MicroStation software experience. Work Environment & Schedule Must comply with all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety protocols. On‑site work arrangement: 5 days a week, with the ability and availability to work overtime as operational needs require.
