HR Business Partner

Job Summary Are you passionate about creating exceptional employee experiences while making a meaningful impact on student success? The Division of Student Affairs at the University of Wisconsin‑Madison is seeking a collaborative and service‑oriented HR professional to serve as a trusted partner to employees and supervisors across assigned departments. In this dynamic role, you will be the primary point of contact for a broad range of human resources functions, including employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, performance support, policy interpretation, and employee engagement. You will help foster a positive and flourishing workplace culture by championing employee well‑being, inclusion, recognition, and professional success while ensuring employees have access to the resources and support they need to thrive. Key Job Responsibilities Develop and implement processes and procedures for various HR functions such as employee trainings, recruitments, compensation, and payroll. Respond to inquiries in-person, via email, and through various communication mediums and relay information to appropriate entities. Facilitate and process complex transactions and programs according to established policies and procedures. Contribute to the development of strategic plans and direct staff implementation of initiatives in alignment with strategic goals. Serve as a consultative Human Resources resource and liaison, interpreting, advising on, applying, and disseminating complex policies, procedures, and options to leadership and employees; and recommend best strategies according to established objectives and goals. Conduct monthly expense analysis and financial reconciliation activities, including review of budget workbooks, monitoring expenditures, and processing backup requisitions and Shared Investment Requests (SIRs) in accordance with established procedures. Process and monitor financial funding transactions, including non‑salary cost transfers, accounting adjustments, payroll accounting adjustments, and other funding reallocations to ensure expenses are accurately charged and aligned with funding requirements. Maintain position and employee costing allocations by entering, updating, and validating funding strings for new hires, position changes, and ongoing personnel actions to support accurate payroll and financial reporting. Enhance the candidate and employee experience by coordinating welcoming, inclusive, and supportive experiences throughout the employment lifecycle and championing culture, engagement, and workplace climate through initiatives that promote employee recognition, well‑being, collaboration, belonging, and connection. Audit human resources reports to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures. Required Qualifications Experience building positive relationships and providing responsive support, guidance, or service to employees, students, customers, or other stakeholders in a complex organization. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, establish trust, and foster a welcoming and inclusive environment while working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. Experience managing multiple priorities, adapting to changing needs, and maintaining organization and attention to detail in a fast‑paced environment. Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and navigate sensitive situations with professionalism, empathy, and discretion. Experience supporting administrative, operational, financial, or budgeting processes, including reviewing, tracking, reconciling, or processing transactions and related information. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting employee, student, supervisor, or customer success through relationship‑building, problem‑solving, conflict resolution, or service‑oriented work. Experience with human resources functions such as recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, training, policy administration, employee engagement, or organizational support. Experience working in higher education, student affairs, public sector, nonprofit, or similarly complex organizations. Experience using human resources, payroll, financial, budgeting, or enterprise management systems to process transactions, maintain records, or generate reports. Education Bachelor's Degree Compensation and Benefits The expected starting salary range for this position is $60,000‑$70,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
