Sales Tax Staff Accountant

General DescriptionThe Sales Tax Staff Accountant is a key member of the Accounting team, responsible for ensuring accurate and timely sales and property tax reporting, supporting month-end close activities, and contributing to the integrity of financial reporting across the organization. This role plays an important part in maintaining compliance, improving processes, and supporting overall financial accuracy and operational efficiency.Essential Job Duties & ResponsibilitiesTo be successful in this role, an individual must perform each essential duty at a satisfactory level. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform these functions.Key responsibilities include:Sales & Use Tax ComplianceManage, monitor, and prepare monthly jurisdictional sales tax reporting using AvalaraMaintain and validate resale exemption certificatesMonitor nexus exposure and ensure ongoing complianceReview, reconcile, and process monthly sales tax filings and paymentsMonth-End Close & Financial ReportingPrepare journal entries and support month-end close activitiesComplete timely and accurate balance sheet reconciliationsAssist with financial statement preparation and variance analysisEnsure all close activities are completed in accordance with established timelines and accounting policiesBank & Account ReconciliationsPerform daily and monthly reconciliations for multiple bank accounts, including deposit, CDA, payroll, and othersFixed Assets & Property TaxMaintain fixed asset records and ensure accurate accounting treatmentSupport property tax compliance, reporting, and reconciliationsFinancial Analysis & Reporting SupportConduct general ledger research, analysis, and reconciliations to support accurate financial reportingPerform financial and cost analysis to support business decision-makingAssist with ad hoc reporting and analysis requests from Finance leadershipCross-Functional & Operational SupportPartner with cross-functional teams to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of financial dataSupport internal and external audits and related compliance activitiesContribute to the development and refinement of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controlsParticipate in documentation of SOPs and process improvement initiativesSupport special projects and initiatives as assigned by Finance leadershipDrive continuous improvement in accounting processes, accuracy, and efficiencyRepresent VSI in a professional and business-aligned manner at all timesQualificationsEducation & ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required3+ years of accounting experience, or equivalent combination of education and experienceTechnical SkillsStrong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)Experience with sales and property tax reportingProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Access)Experience with ERP systems such as Prelude, NetSuite, or Oracle preferredCore CompetenciesStrong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skillsExcellent problem-solving and analytical abilitiesStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work independently and collaboratively across teamsCustomer-service mindset with ability to communicate at all levels of the organizationHigh level of integrity and commitment to ethical decision-makingAbility to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalismPhysical Demands & Working ConditionsThis role requires regular use of standard office equipment and may involve the following:Frequent use of computers, phones, and electronic communication toolsAbility to sit, stand, and walk for extended periodsOccasional stooping, bending, kneeling, lifting, and reachingFrequent use of hands, as well as visual and auditory abilitiesAbility to lift up to 25–30 lbs as neededWork environment is typically low to moderate noiseBenefits & PerksWe offer a competitive and well-rounded benefits package designed to support your health, financial well-being, and professional growth, including:Medical, dental, and vision insurance coverageCompany-sponsored 401(k) plan with employer matchPaid time off (PTO) and paid holidaysEmployee Assistance Program (EAP) for mental health and well-being supportEmployee discounts on work clothes and pet suppliesWork Location: In person #J-18808-Ljbffr Veterinary Service Inc
