Job Title: Surgical Technologist (Certified) Req: 2025-1294 Location: VMC Main Campus, Renton, WA Department: Surgery Shift: Day/Evening Type: Full Time, FTE: 1 Salary Range: Minimum $33.29 - Maximum $53.78 per hour, DOE. Job Description The surgical technologist serves as the “scrub person” in the surgical suite and other clinical areas, supporting the surgical team and ensuring preparation and sterilization of instruments and equipment. Responsibilities Ensure surgical procedures and surgeon preference cards are current and followed. Prepare the clinical area physically, including staging of furniture. Prepare specimens for sending to Pathology and transport them per protocol. Establish and maintain a sterile field. Prepare instruments for use as needed. Assist in room turnover and setup promptly. Familiar with autoclave use. Coordinate stocking with staff members. Observe Surgical Services Department dress code and wear identification badge. Comply with attendance and tardiness standards. Verify exposure to a sterilization process and integrity of sterile packaging; open supplies aseptically. Prepare and be knowledgeable about all needed equipment and supplies, including solutions and drugs. Other duties as assigned. Demonstrate applied knowledge in areas of Generic Unit Structure Standards, Unit Specific Process Standards, Patient Care Resources/References. Follow the chain of command for unresolved issues. Successfully complete annual competency testing. Performance reflects knowledge of Association of Surgical Technologists Standards of Practice. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program with recent experience in an acute care facility or equivalent training. Current registration to practice as a surgical technologist in the State of Washington. Certification preferred. Capable of comprehending, executing, acting, and directing independently. Effective oral and written communication in English. Neat and well-groomed appearance. Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills with a diverse population.
