Nursery Worker

Job Overview Grow trees and shrubs in containers, maintain irrigation systems, apply fertilizers, blend soil amendments, and keep landscaping and windbreaks well maintained. Responsibilities Grow and maintain trees and shrubs in containers. Trim, prune, weed, water, and apply fertilizers. Maintain irrigation systems and staking. Blend soil amendments as required. Maintain landscaping and windbreaks (e.g., pull weeds, check drip emitters, set traps for gophers). Daily maintenance: trim, prune, fertilize, and water plants and trees. Daily production: pot plants and trees from 1‑gallon perennials to 100‑gallon trees. Operate forklift: load/unload trucks, move carts, unload peat moss/vermiculite, place pallets, and wear protective gear. Operate tractor: drive and control equipment for tilling, planting, cultivating, mowing, harvesting; use irrigation tape injectors and mulch layers; load/unload seed and materials. Qualifications Valid driver's license. Doctor's certificate per 29 CFR 500.105. Physical ability for long field work and handling wet or dry conditions, temperature extremes, and weather variations. Experience with horticulture operations and farm machinery. Ability to use protective gear and follow safety protocols. Work Conditions Field work for long periods; may be wet with dew, rain, snow, wind, sun, high humidity. Must work with potential allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, insect spray, chemicals. Must wear assigned PPE and suitable work clothing; casual clothing not permitted. Unpaid lunch break after 5 hours; daily or weekly schedule may vary due to weather and crop conditions.
