Closing Date: 7/7/2026 11:59 PM Mountain. Salary: $65,742.66 - $86,546.36 annually. Responsibilities Under general supervision, perform assigned municipal law and ordinance enforcement and crime prevention duties which include maintaining a recognizable community presence to preserve peace and order, protect persons and property, and otherwise provide allied police services requested as well as precisely documenting evidence, circumstances, and actions regarding actual and potential criminal violations or other public safety‑related incidents. Typical Duties: - Participate in and successfully complete the Lateral Police Officer Academy including classroom sessions, field training, lectures, demonstrations, practice sessions, and study assignments in law enforcement, Texas Penal code, firearms & weapons care, marksmanship, policies, traffic laws, radio operation, defensive driving, safety, emergency response, accident investigation, ethics, report writing, and community relations. - Upon graduation & commission as a Police Officer, patrol streets, parks, commercial and residential areas on an assigned beat by foot, motorcycle or car to prevent or detect and investigate felony or misdemeanor law violations and other misconduct; regulate traffic; respond to calls for police assistance; check premises for burglars, fires, and other disturbances; respond to emergency radio or telephone calls; investigate vehicular or other accidents, robberies, civil disturbances, domestic violence, fights, drunkenness, missing persons, prowlers and drug abuse; examine suspicious conditions and conduct primary searches of scenes; investigate and arrest; transport, register, and book prisoners; collaborate with other agencies; provide traffic and parking enforcement; perform first aid; serve special operations if assigned; engage in community‑oriented policing, conduct educational programs, and testify in court. - Prepare felony and misdemeanor cases for filing, compile reports on investigations, field interrogations, alcohol or drug influence, accident scenes, and traffic hazards; maintain records such as daily activity log, arrest register, breathalyzer checklist, bad check form, and vehicle impoundment form. - Perform related duties as required, maintain equipment, participate in in‑service training, explain patrol practices, serve on ad hoc committees, and remain available by radio or telephone for consultation. Qualifications Requirements: High School Diploma, GED or higher and twelve (12) semester hours of college credit in any field from an accredited institution. Minimum three (3) years of patrol duty (calls for service/street duty) while employed full‑time by a state, county, or municipal police department, college or school police department, sheriff’s department, or county constable; must be 21 years of age or older on the date of application. Must have received or be eligible for an Honorable Discharge (as defined by TCOLE) from all law‑enforcement agencies of previous employment; experience as deputy, detention officer, jailer, etc. is not applicable. Recent or current Texas State Peace Officer License from TCOLE or equivalent state‑certified peace officer license commissioned by a state, county or municipal police or sheriff’s department; valid Texas Class C driver’s license or equivalent from another state. Out‑of‑state applicants must be eligible to become licensed by TCOLE, must pass the Basic Peace Officers Exam before graduation from the Lateral Police Academy, and complete required courses within 180 days prior to academy start. All applicants must be current U.S. citizens or honorably discharged legal permanent residents, pass a background investigation and oral interview, successfully complete a physical agility exam, medical exam, polygraph, and psychological and drug exams. Veterans must meet licensing criteria under Texas law. Additional Information Physical evaluation dates: August 24th and August 31, 2026 (dates tentative).
