Position: Nationally Certified Clinical Assistant – Urgent Care
Location: Juneau, Alaska
Salary: $60,000.00 to $83,000.00 annually
Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Candidates MUST have prior Urgent Care experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide clinical and administrative support to providers and nursing staff in an urgent care/ambulatory care setting.
• Prepare patients and examination rooms for visits, procedures, and treatments.
• Review patient charts and identify required forms, follow-up labs, procedures, and other care needs.
• Obtain and accurately document age-appropriate vital signs, including temperature, height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, respirations, pulse oximetry, and visual acuity.
• Obtain and update patient medical histories, medication lists, and immunization records.
• Maintain complete, accurate, and organized electronic medical records.
• Recognize changes in patient condition or behavior and promptly notify the appropriate healthcare provider.
• Assist with patient transportation, ambulation, transfers, and observation as needed.
• Assist providers with examinations, treatments, minor procedures, and office surgeries.
• Collect, label, process, and transport specimens according to established protocols.
• Perform Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) as ordered.
• Perform clinical procedures within established competencies, including:
• • Nebulizer treatments
  • Ear lavage
  • Simple dressing changes
  • Cast removal
  • Diabetes foot screening
  • 12-lead EKGs
  • Peak flow testing
  • Oxygen administration
  • Heat/cold pack application
  • Abdominal binders and anti-embolism stockings
  • AED and approved airway management procedures
• Provide basic patient education and discharge instructions as directed.
• Maintain clean, safe, and properly sanitized examination rooms.
• Process surgical equipment appropriately and maintain sterile package integrity.
• Replenish examination room, laboratory, and medical supplies.
• Follow infection-control procedures and properly dispose of medical and other regulated waste.
• Perform equipment quality assurance checks and maintain required logs.
• Accurately use EHR/EMR and other healthcare information systems.
• Report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, and other issues promptly.
• Answer telephone calls, relay messages accurately, and provide professional customer service.
• Make patient confirmation calls as required.
• Provide cross-coverage and support to other clinical staff and clinics as needed.
• Participate in staff meetings, training, quality initiatives, and departmental activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Education

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) program  OR qualifying healthcare experience.

Certification

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• National certification as a Clinical Medical Assistant/Clinical Assistant preferred or required as applicable.
• Clinical Competency Assessment must be completed within 3 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.

Experience

Candidates must meet applicable experience requirements, including one or more of the following:

• Completion of a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant program; OR
• One year of experience as a Clinical Assistant 1 with SEARHC and successful completion of the required competency assessment; OR
• One year of experience as a CNA, EMT, or CHA.

Additional qualifying experience may include:

• Completion of the SEARHC CCMA Training Program
• One year of healthcare experience
• Two years of customer service experience
• Certified Nursing Assistant training
• One year of actively practicing EMT experience
• Completion of Alaska Community Health Aide – Level 1

IMPORTANT: Prior Urgent Care experience is required for this position.

Knowledge & Skills

The successful candidate should have:

• Knowledge of ambulatory and urgent care clinic procedures and patient flow.
• Understanding of basic patient triage and appropriate escalation of concerns.
• Knowledge of age-appropriate vital signs and patient behaviors.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and basic clinical procedures.
• Understanding of infection-control practices.
• Experience with electronic medical records and healthcare documentation.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
• Computer skills sufficient to accurately use EHR/EMR and medical database systems.
• Ability to operate basic clinical equipment, including vital-sign equipment and EKG machines.
