Job Description

CENTERSTONE MEDICAL GROUP

FQHC Medical Director

Location: Quincy, IL; Hannibal, MO; Columbia, MO; St. Louis, MO; or Indianapolis, IN

Department: Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC)

Employment Type: Full-Time

Schedule: Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

About Centerstone Medical Group

Centerstone Medical Group is proud to be one of the largest community-based medical groups in the nation. We support the medical providers who deliver integrated health services across the organizations under Centerstone, including psychiatry, medication-assisted treatment for addiction, crisis stabilization, primary care, home health care, pharmacy, integrated health, and a wide range of specialty care.

We don't do business as usual — we push boundaries and redefine care every day. We take a whole-person approach, integrating primary care, behavioral health, addiction medicine, and dental and pharmacy services to meet people where they are. We don't work in silos — we work as a team, collaborating across disciplines to solve real problems in real time.

We're looking for bold thinkers — physicians, nurse practitioners, psychologists, and dental providers who want to break barriers and rethink healthcare. If you're ready to do more, think bigger, and change lives, we want you on our team.

Position Summary

Lead the Future of Community Healthcare

We are seeking an experienced and mission-driven Primary Care Medical Director to provide clinical leadership for our Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). In this role, you will collaborate with organizational leadership to oversee medical operations, ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care, support provider development, and advance strategic initiatives that improve the health and well-being of the communities we serve.

The Primary Care Medical Director plays a critical role in shaping clinical practice standards, driving quality improvement efforts, and fostering a culture of collaboration, excellence, and patient-centered care — with a steady focus on expanding access to high-quality care for underserved communities.

What You'll Do

Clinical Leadership & Provider Management

  • Champion high-quality, patient-centered care that expands access for underserved and vulnerable populations.
  • Recruit, interview, and assist in the selection of medical providers.
  • Provide clinical supervision, mentoring, coaching, and performance evaluations for medical staff.
  • Oversee provider schedules, call coverage, and leave coordination.
  • Support onboarding, orientation, and ongoing professional development activities.
  • Ensure medical services are effectively integrated within the organization's comprehensive care model.
  • Facilitate provider meetings and encourage collaboration among clinical teams.
  • Conduct or delegate regular medical record reviews to ensure quality care and documentation compliance.
  • Provide oversight and supervision of Advanced Practice Providers, including Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants, as applicable.
  • Serve as a clinical resource to providers and interdisciplinary teams.

Administrative Leadership

  • Develop, review, and approve medical policies, procedures, and clinical protocols.
  • Monitor healthcare trends, regulations, and industry best practices to ensure compliance and operational excellence.
  • Participate in strategic planning, goal development, and organizational initiatives.
  • Review clinical service agreements and patient care contracts.
  • Serve as a liaison between medical staff and organizational leadership.
  • Represent the organization at hospitals, professional associations, community organizations, and medical societies.
  • Provide recommendations regarding professional fee schedules and service delivery models.
  • Participate in budget planning, monitoring, and resource allocation activities.

Quality & Performance Improvement

  • Lead quality improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with CARF standards, state regulations, federal requirements, and payer expectations.
  • Review patient satisfaction results and identify opportunities for service enhancements.
  • Address patient complaints related to medical services and support resolution efforts.
  • Monitor quality metrics, clinical outcomes, and documentation standards.
  • Promote continuous improvement and evidence -based practice throughout the organization.

Culture & Mission

  • Foster a supportive, collaborative, and patient-focused clinical environment.
  • Promote ethical medical practice and compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality and safeguard protected health information.
  • Support organizational initiatives that advance the mission, vision, and values of the health center.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Current unrestricted physician license in the state of practice.
  • Board Certification in Family Medicine.
  • Current DEA registration.

  • Ability to meet and maintain all Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer credentialing requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) or more years of Medical Director experience.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience as a practicing physician.
  • Experience leading community health, primary care, or integrated healthcare programs.
  • Prior supervisory and provider management experience.
  • Experience with medical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and regulatory compliance.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of healthcare operations, medical practice management, and clinical quality standards.
  • Understanding of applicable state, federal, accreditation, and payer requirements.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate healthcare programs and services.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
