Analyses technical data, designs, preliminary specifications, manufacturing limitations, supplier facilities, and availability of parts and equipment. Investigate potential suppliers and recommend those most desirable. Leads, Arranges, participates cross-functional teams in communication and collaboration between suppliers and engineers, purchasers, inspectors, and other company personnel to facilitate economical procurement of parts and equipment used in SubCom's products.ResponsibilitiesLead the wet and dry plant effort in sustained engineering for the Supply Chain Management team.Identify and develop alternate/2nd source SuppliersLead cross-functional team through charter development to execution using SubCom methodology and stage-gate processDevelop cost modeling for continued price evaluation/reduction through VA/VEWork with R&D and Operations engineers to identify non-value-added requirementsWork with Suppliers to drive quality improvement initiativesWorks directly with Suppliers to understand their cost structure and drive part/process pricing improvements through elimination of non-value-added effort.Works internally to develop "Should-Cost Models" and communicates cross-functionally with R&D, Finance, Supply Chain and Operations teamsIdentify 2nd and 3rd source opportunities through alternate parts, processes, or technology to create optionality for SubComDevelop and maintain Product Lifecycle Management reporting tools in support of the pipeline initiatives to drive future cost reduction effortsWork closely with the design, quality and component engineering teams to ensure continued source of supplyParticipate in regular Supply Chain meetings and interfaces with all departmentsEnsure compliance with purchasing policies and procedures, ethical practices and adherence to relevant laws and regulationsQualificationsSupply Chain Management or Business Management Bachelor of Science degree required. Engineering degree a bonus with Product/Process experience in the New Product Introduction, Product Development, Product Lifecycle Management domain. Electrical, Mechanical, Optical, or Industrial Engineering background and experience will be an advantage.Advanced skills and abilities in conducting market and industry research and using intelligence gained to inform strategy and covert into actionable tasksAbility to synthesize internal and external information to form a point of view and enroll other stakeholders to gain consensusEngineering, knowledge of the submarine cable business is preferred but not requiredUnderstanding reliability/quality and supply line management is desirableDemonstrated leadership ability and experience leading cross-functional teams and initiatives with a focus on re-engineering, greenfield business initiatives, innovation, and program development.Knowledge of manufacturing cost analysis, with a focus on cost reduction is a plus.Ability to manage multiple tasks and frequent travel to Factories and Supplier's locations.A prime requirement for this job is the ability to learn the techniques for utilizing new technology and continuous part/product cost improvementAbility to conduct business in a professional manner at all times and to be cooperative and service orientedStrong work ethic and ability to work effectively as well as efficiently, with minimum direct supervisionA team player with a great positive and professional attitude who is willing and eager to learn.Must be able to: multitask, be flexible, handle high-pressure situations, have strict attention to detail, work in a close-knit team oriented fast paced atmosphereFlexibility and can-do attitude to manage unexpected situations successfullyAbility to deal professionally with internal and external customers.Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Lync, PowerPoint)Advanced organizational and time management skillsTravel to other SubCom locations and Supplier facilities is a requirementThe performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas where under certain areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protectionNOTE: This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
