Licensing Transactions Officer The Licensing Transactions Officer will provide essential support to Stanford faculty by drafting and negotiating material transfer, confidentiality, inter-institutional and tangible research property related agreements. The Licensing Transactions Officer will maintain a caseload that includes a variety of types of agreements with different types of collaborators, sponsors (industry, non-profit, government and other) and licensees. The OTL team is looking for a skilled negotiator who can independently review and negotiate agreements, communicate regularly with faculty and staff, and maintain a positive, professional attitude in a fast-paced environment. This is a 100% FTE, benefits-eligible hybrid position with the expectation to be in the office twice a week. Core duties include conducting formal negotiations, finalizing, and administering various licensing related agreements, negotiating intellectual property and publication rights, as well as confidentiality, indemnification, and financial terms. The Licensing Transactions Officer will also negotiate complex Material Transfer and Tangible Research property Agreements, draft language that complies with University, Federal and other regulatory policies, requirements, and conditions. Other research-related agreements that involve intellectual property, publication, and confidentiality issues will also be negotiated. Contractual and policy issues such as compliance, conflicts of interest and accounting will be identified and resolved. The Licensing Transactions Officer will advise and assist client groups by interpreting and explaining contract terms and conditions of different licensing related agreements. Contractual problems that arise during the course of a project will be resolved by consulting with investigators, supervisor, senior staff, and sponsors. Standard agreements will be reviewed and revised to reflect changes in University policies, Federal regulations, and laws. Minimum requirements include a Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience. JD preferred. Knowledge, skills and abilities include demonstrated ability to draft, negotiate and conclude industry research agreements, demonstrated understanding of intellectual property and licensing issues as they pertain to industry sponsored research, demonstrated understanding of university research environment and policies, advanced communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups and all levels of management. Strong analytical and problem solving skills to review and analyze complex information. Strong service orientation, demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, action-oriented, customer-focused service environment. Extremely detail oriented and able to work well independently, but also able to seek out assistance when needed. Excellent interpersonal skills, good judgment and the ability to conduct negotiations in a timely manner. Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize a variety of tasks and demands. Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn applicable university and departmental systems. Physical requirements include frequently performing desk based computer tasks, seated work and use light/ fine grasping. Occasionally use a telephone, stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, write by hand, sort, and file paperwork or parts. Rarely lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds. This role is open to candidates anywhere in the United States. The compensation for this position will be based on the location of the successful candidate. For hybrid and remote employees working in the Stanford Work Region location, the expected pay range is $115,863 - $133,011. For remote employees working outside the Stanford Work Region location, the expected pay range is $92,614 - $114,391. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of the salary or hourly wage the university reasonably expects to pay for a position upon hire. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on a wide range of factors that are unique to each candidate including but not limited to geographic location, knowledge, skills and abilities, relevant education, depth and breadth of experience, performance; as well as other business and organization needs such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the minimum qualifications, departmental budget availability, and market and internal equity across the unit, department and reporting relationships.
