COMPENSATION: $25.54 per hour based on Local-4 Collective Agreement

POSTING DATES: August 21, 2026 – Until filled Wayne-Westland Community Schools is located in the metropolitan Detroit area, between Ann Arbor and Detroit. Our staff provides the very best educational opportunities for approx. 10,000 students from Westland, Wayne, Canton, Livonia, Garden City, Dearborn Heights, Inkster, and Romulus. The Wayne-Westland Community School district is comprised of ten elementary schools (K-5), three middle schools (6-8), and two high schools (9-12). We also have an early childhood center, an ultra-modern facility for career/technical training, an alternative high school, and a thriving online program. Qualification Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned

• Patrol school buildings and grounds to monitor students and school property
• Check and secure doors, etc., as necessary
• Assist administration in the enforcement of school rules, provisions of law, and control of crowds and individuals
• Assist administration in the supervision of locker rooms, bathrooms, physical education facilities, cafeterias, and hallways throughout the building
• Make written reports as requested by administration
• Assist with traffic control for entering and exiting vehicles
• Assist with school bus traffic, loading and unloading
• Communicate positively with students, staff, parents, and the public in general
• Assist with the movement of students with special needs as necessary
• Assist with visitor control inside and outside of the school building
• Regular and predictable attendance

Education And Experience

• High School diploma, GED, or equivalent
• Previous experience working in a security or safety related job preferred

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Must be eligible to work in the United States
• Physically able to patrol buildings and grounds, inside and out
• Ability to communicate positively with students, staff, administrators, and parents
• Ability to maintain harmonious relations with students
• Ability to define problems, collect information, establish facts and draw valid conclusions

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move about the school building and occasionally the school grounds. The person in this position frequently interacts with students and must be able to distinguish between what is appropriate and what is inappropriate activity and act accordingly. This employee must be able to engage in the physical management of students in order to maintain a safe environment for students and others

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee is frequently required to interact with students, staff, and occasionally with the public. The employee may be required to work outside. The employee may frequently be around humidity and chemicals involved with public swimming pools. The employee is directly responsible for the safety and well-being of students and staff.

Job performance is evaluated in accordance with district guidelines.

Terms Of Employment

Work year is determined by the number of days students are in attendance during the regular school calendar. Workday is seven hours per day. The hourly rate is based on the MEA/Local Four collective bargaining agreement.
