Crew Chief Full Time Employee Gainesville, GA, US 2 days ago Requisition ID: 2817 Salary Range: $26.24 To $33.09 Hourly JOB SUMMARY Operates one or more pieces of heavy equipment at a skilled level, assists in assigning, checking and approving work of laborers and other equipment operators. Supports Supervisor in the daily activities in his absence. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Participates in and oversees the work of road maintenance employees engaged in the repairing roads, clearing of land for construction of roads, parking lots, building sights, routine maintenance of county roads, etc. Trains new employees; instructs employees in new work methods and procedures. Performs basic maintenance on equipment, checking all fluid levels and greasing and minor maintenance repairs. May assist in performing unskilled or semi-skilled labor such as pouring concrete, laying block, installing pipes, installing erosion controls and shoulder maintenance. Oversee the work of inmate work crew and are responsible for their safety and security at all times. Regular and predictable attendance is required. Performs other related duties as required. MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT USED Bulldozer Front End Loader Flat Bed/Dump Truck Chain Saw All Hand Tools Mowing Equipment Compactors Backhoe Excavators Water Trucks MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED Education and Experience: High School Diploma or G.E.D. Three years combined Equipment Operator II and III experience required. Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the minimum level of qualifications, stated above. Licenses and Certifications: Valid “Class I” Driver’s License and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR). Must have “Class A” Driver’s License. POST certification required Due to the safety-sensitive nature of this position, incumbents will be subject to random drug testing. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques in construction and maintenance of roads. Knowledge of geography of the county. Knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures. Knowledge of the equipment and tools used in construction, road maintenance, and knowledge of applicable safety rules. Knowledge of the pertinent laws and regulations related to road maintenance’s operations. Ability to direct and oversee the work of a road maintenance crew. Ability to operate and maintain machinery. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing. Essential functions occasionally require the ability to move oneself by crawling on hands and knees and move/transport items weighing between 76lbs and 100lbs. Essential functions occasionally require incumbents to be on-call; work irregular hours (i.e. nights and/or weekends); and attend work related meetings and trainings. Sensory Ability: Essential Functions require the ability to use effective verbal and written communication; and use of hand/eye coordination and fine manipulation to use tools and equipment. Environmental Factors: Essential functions are continuously performed with exposure to risk of bodily injury from hazards including chemical, sharp objects/tools, heavy machinery, and traffic; dirt/mud, fumes, gasses, odors, dust, grease and oil; moving mechanical parts; extreme noise; vibration; and wet, slippery floors/surfaces. Incumbents continuously must be able to work with others. Essential functions are frequently performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions, including inclement weather or dry environments; extreme hot or cold temperatures; risk of bodily injury from biological hazards; working in high heights/high places or constricted spaces; and hot temperature devices including burners and flame torches. Essential functions are occasionally performed with exposure to risk of bodily injury from electrical hazards. Incumbents occasionally must be able to work alone. Incumbents regularly must be able to work around equipment/machinery; drive county vehicles and other equipment; and walk on uneven ground.
