Position Summary Information The Utility Custodian keeps the college buildings in a clean and sanitary condition. Creates and maintains safe, clean, and inviting campuses for students, employees and the public. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. One year of work experience in cleaning and/or custodial services. Good working knowledge of housekeeping and general maintenance procedures. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Preferred Qualifications Two (2) years of work experience in cleaning and/or custodial services. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Check, restock, and clean restrooms. Sweep, scrub, mop and spot clean. Use emergency clean-up kits to clean up bodily fluids as needed. Clean lobbies, lounges, corridors, elevators, stairways, classrooms. Clean rugs, carpets, and upholstered furniture. Dust furniture. Clean walls (wallpaper and painted), ceiling, and woodwork. Wash windows, door panels, and thresholds. Empty wastebaskets. Keep outside entrances clean (remove leaves and dirt, clean windows, remove trash and debris). Transport trash and waste to disposal area. Unstop toilets and water fountains and perform minor plumbing procedures. Spread ice melt and remove snow, as needed. Maintain cleaning equipment, supplies, & products. Be willing to adapt to the needs of the college. Basic computer knowledge to complete training, work orders, etc. Uniform and personal appearance kept clean and professional. Meet the required standards of the college and within the set time limits. Ensure security of assigned master key. Attend specialized training activities that enhance performance. Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive information. Other duties as assigned. Physical Demands The employee will need to regularly operate and use computers, phones and other electronic equipment. The employee will frequently communicate and must be able to exchange accurate information with others. The employee may need to move around their office and/or campus to attend meetings/classes and to access files, machinery or other job‑related tools. The employee may need to lift and/or move equipment, tools or paperwork up to 75 pounds. The employee may need to position themselves by reaching, stooping, kneeling or crouching in order to adjust or collect equipment and/or supplies. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places; and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
