Accounting Specialist (CPA Firm)

Position Overview

Our growing CPA firm is seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Specialist to support a variety of client accounting needs. This role is ideal for an accounting professional with prior public accounting, tax office, or bookkeeping experience who enjoys working with multiple clients and handling a mix of bookkeeping, accounts payable, payroll support, tax-related filings, and monthly accounting write-up services.

The Accounting Specialist will work closely with clients and firm leadership to maintain accurate financial records, assist with day-to-day accounting functions, and support special projects throughout the year. This position offers excellent exposure to a wide range of industries and accounting processes within a collaborative CPA firm environment.
Key Responsibilities

• Manage full-cycle accounts payable functions for multiple clients, including invoice processing, coding, approval tracking, and payment preparation.
• Perform monthly and quarterly accounting write-ups, including bank reconciliations, adjusting journal entries, and preparation of financial reports.
• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Assist with client bookkeeping and month-end close activities.
• Prepare and file sales tax returns and assist with payroll tax filings as needed.
• Process payroll and maintain payroll-related records for client accounts.
• Reconcile bank, credit card, loan, and balance sheet accounts.
• Review client financial records and identify discrepancies requiring follow-up.
• Assist with year-end accounting and tax preparation support.
• Communicate professionally with clients regarding accounting records, missing documentation, and account-related inquiries.
• Support partners and staff with special projects, reports, and administrative accounting functions.
• Maintain organized electronic files and documentation in accordance with firm procedures.
• Learn and utilize firm tax and accounting software platforms effectively.

Qualifications

• Prior experience working in a CPA firm, accounting firm, or tax office required.
• 2+ years of accounting, bookkeeping, or client accounting services experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, accounts payable, reconciliations, and financial statements.
• Experience performing accounting write-ups and maintaining client bookkeeping records.
• Knowledge of payroll processing and sales/payroll tax filings preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Experience with QuickBooks and other accounting software preferred.
• Ability to learn new systems, software applications, and accounting procedures quickly.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

• Exposure to tax preparation software and year-end tax support.
