Research Pharmacy TechnicianThe goal of the Research Pharmacy (RP) in the Department of Pharmacy Services at Michigan Medicine is to ensure that investigational drug studies and other drug related research at the Hospitals and Clinics are conducted in a safe and efficient manner. In doing so, the RP assists investigators in complying with the requirements of the FDA, study sponsors, Michigan State Board of Pharmacy Regulations, The Joint Commission standards and requirements, and hospital and pharmacy policies. Come join our excellent team of dedicated pharmacy technicians and pharmacists!General Pharmacy Technician duties may include:Prepare and package non-sterile compounded pharmaceuticalsPrepare sterile products, injections and IV chemotherapyFill automated dispensing cabinets on nursing unitsCorrectly distribute and account for controlled substances usageDeliver medications to nursing units including surgical roomsStock medications shelves, manage inventory dating, return excess stock to inventory, properly dispose expired medications or return to manufacturerPrepare and deliver investigational drugs per research protocolsRespond and triage telephone and electronic message inquiriesAssist the Pharmacist with auditing controlled substance utilizationComplete restocking and dispensing activities using pharmacy automationReceive orders and prepare and package medications for outside clinicsBuild various medication kits, providing support to many different professionsConduct admission medication historiesAssist the pharmacist in resuscitation baysPerforming pharmacy cleaning and documentationAssist with training of staffOther duties and special projects as assigned by supervisor to assist with preparation and delivery of patient medicationsWork in a highly collaborative environment including Pharmacists, Pharmacy Managers, Technician Supervisors, and other medical professionalsRequired Qualifications*Pharmacy Technician Senior:Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Current licensure that meets the State of Michigan Pharmacy Technician licensing requirements. The new regulations allow for a one-time temporary license for up to 1 year, during which time a Technician must successfully complete requirements to become certified and meet all other State of Michigan requirements for a Full Pharmacy Technician License. UMHS Pharmacy Department provides coaching and additional information to support Technicians to become certified and licensed.Newly hired pharmacy technicians must obtain a valid Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before their hire date. This can include a Full Michigan Pharmacy Technician License or a Temporary Michigan Pharmacy Technician License. If a technician obtains a Temporary Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before their date of hire, they must obtain a Full Michigan Pharmacy Technician License within 1 year of hire date or before the Temporary Michigan Pharmacy Technician License expires, whichever is sooner, in order to maintain employment. In addition, All pharmacy technicians must obtain PTCB certification within 6 months of hire date or in time to obtain a Full Michigan Pharmacy Technician License, whichever is sooner, and they must maintain their PTCB certification throughout the duration of employment at UMHS as a Pharmacy Technician.Modes of WorkPositions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department.
