provide residents with routine daily nursing care and services in accordance with the resident’s assessment and care plan and as directed by supervisors.AdministrativeAssist the Director of Nursing in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating and directing the day-to-day functions of the nursing services department in accordance with current rules, regulations and guidelines that govern the facilityAssist in developing and implementing a nursing services organizational structureWork with the Minimum Data Set/Resident Assessment Instrument (MDS/RAI) Coordinator to schedule, conduct and submit resident assessmentsAllocate resources efficiently while ensuring that residents obtain their highest practical physical, mental and psychosocial well-beingCollaborate with medical professionals, consultants and organizations including government and advocacy groupsCoordinate with other resident services to ensure continuity of resident careRead and interpret long-term care regulations and requirements of participationAssist in the development of nursing policies and procedures which meet the current standards of nursing practice, comply with state and federal regulations, reflect facility philosophy and support operational objectivesAssist the Director of Nursing in obtaining staffing information that must be posted on a daily basisParticipate in developing, implementing and periodically updating the resident’s written discharge planDevelop and periodically update nursing services objectives and statements of philosophyEnsure reference material (i.e., Physicians’ Desk Reference (PDR), regulations, professional standards of practice, etc.) maintained at the nurses’ stations is current Recommend to the Director of Nursing written material that will assist the nursing services department in meeting the day-to-day needs of residentsMonitor Quality Measure ReportsParticipate in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as requested by the Administrator or the Director of NursingParticipate in the development, maintenance and implementation of the facility’s quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) program for the nursing services departmentConduct administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessaryCommittee FunctionsServe on, participate in and attend various committees of the facility in the absence of the Director of NursingParticipate in regularly scheduled reviews of the discharge plansSchedule, attend and participate in Care Plan Committee meetingsServe on the QAPI Committee as directedCare Plan and AssessmentNursing CareEnsure that direct nursing care is provided by a licensed nurse, a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and/or a nurse aide trainee qualified to complete the procedureGreet newly admitted residents upon admission | Escort them to their rooms as necessaryMake rounds with physicians as necessaryMonitor medication passes and treatment schedules to ensure that medications are being administered as ordered and that treatments are provided as scheduledParticipate in the interviewing and selection of residents for admission to the facility including the Preadmission Screening and Resident Review (PASARR)Provide direct nursing care as necessaryProvide the Director of Nursing with information relative to the nursing needs of the residents and to the nursing services department’s ability to meet those needsReport medication errors to the Director of NursingReport problem areas to the Director of Nursing | Assist in developing and implementing corrective actionSchedule daily rounds to observe residents and to determine if nursing needs are being metCare Plan and AssessmentEnsure that staff members are providing care that reflects the wishes of the residentParticipate in the preliminary and comprehensive assessments of the nursing needs of each residentParticipate in the development of a written person-centered care plan for each resident that identifies the problems/needs of the resident, indicates the care to be given, goals to be accomplished and which professional service is responsible for each element of careEncourage the resident and his/her family to participate in the development and review of the resident’s plan of careStaff DevelopmentAssist the Staff Development Coordinator in planning and conducting in-service trainingAttend continuing education programsProvide leadership training that includes the administrative and supervisory principles essential for the Charge Nurse/Nurse SupervisorSafety | SanitationEnsure that all nursing services personnel follow established departmental policies and procedures including appropriate dress codesEnsure that all personnel wear and/or use safety equipment and supplies (e.g., back brace, mechanical lifts, etc.) when moving or lifting a residentEnsure that all resident care rooms, treatment areas, etc., are maintained in a clean, safe and sanitary mannerEnsure that an adequate supply of personal protective equipment (PPE) is immediately available to personnel who conduct procedures that involve exposure to blood or body fluidsEnsure that nursing services personnel follow established infection prevention and control proceduresParticipate in the development, implementation and maintenance of the procedures for reporting hazardous conditions or equipmentParticipate in the development, implementation and maintenance of the infection prevention and control program for monitoring communicable and/or infectious diseases among the residents and personnelReport missing/illegible labels and safety data sheets (SDSs) to the Safety Compliance Officer or other designated personEquipment and SupplyAssist the Director of Maintenance in developing a preventive maintenance program for maintaining the nursing services department equipment and supplies in a safe and operable mannerEnsure that appropriate SDSs are on file for hazardous chemicals used in the nursing services departmentEnsure that only trained and authorized personnel operate facility equipmentParticipate in the development and implementation of procedures for the safe operation of all nursing services equipmentRecommend to the Director of Nursing the equipment and supply needs of the departmentEducationRequired | Nursing degree (RN) from an accredited college or universityExperience | Skills | KnowledgeRequiredTwo (2) years experience as a supervisor in a nursing care facility or other related health care facilitySix (6) months experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practicesCurrent unencumbered active license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of TexasSpecific RequirementsDemonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents servedBe a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of team work and team conceptAbility to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such actionAbility to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general publicKnowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures as well as laws, regulations and guidelines that pertain to nursing
