Just in Time for Foster Youth (JIT) is looking for an Impact & Insights Analyst who understands that some of the most important insights don't begin in a spreadsheet—they begin with a conversation.

Reporting to the Director of Impact Measurement, this role works directly with youth and young adults with lived experience in foster care to better understand their experiences, needs, and outcomes. You'll conduct interviews, facilitate conversations, identify themes across stories and data, and help JIT understand not only what is happening, but why .

Success in this role requires more than strong analytical skills. We're looking for someone with exceptional emotional intelligence, empathy, curiosity, and interpersonal judgment —someone who knows how to make people feel heard, ask thoughtful questions, navigate sensitive conversations, and recognize the meaning behind what is being shared.

Data is an important part of this role, but people come first.

What You'll Do

Listen, Learn & Build Trust

• Conduct one-on-one interviews, focus groups, listening sessions, and other qualitative research with youth and young adults, including individuals who may be discussing deeply personal or sensitive experiences.

• Build genuine rapport with participants from a wide range of backgrounds and lived experiences.

• Ask thoughtful follow-up questions while knowing when to listen, when to probe, and when to give someone space.

• Create an environment where participants feel respected, safe, and comfortable sharing their experiences.

• Approach conversations with empathy, cultural humility, curiosity, and an understanding of trauma-informed practices.

• Recognize verbal and nonverbal cues and adapt your communication style to the person and situation.

Find Meaning in What You Hear

• Review interviews and qualitative feedback to identify recurring themes, experiences, needs, and opportunities.

• Develop coding frameworks and conduct thematic analysis.

• Look beyond individual responses to identify patterns and understand the larger story emerging from participants' experiences.

• Translate what you learn into clear, actionable insights that help JIT strengthen programs and better serve youth.

• Ensure participants' experiences are represented accurately, respectfully, and without losing the nuance of their individual stories.

Connect Stories With Data

• Integrate qualitative findings with quantitative information to develop a more complete picture of JIT's impact.

• Partner with program teams to understand what the data means within the context of actual participant experiences.

• Help create reports, presentations, visualizations, and narratives for internal and external audiences.

• Support the collection, organization, cleaning, and maintenance of program and evaluation data.

• Use tools such as Salesforce, Qualtrics, Formstack, and Omatic to support measurement and reporting.

• Protect confidential and sensitive participant information and maintain high standards of data integrity.

What You'll Bring

• 5+ years of relevant professional experience in qualitative research, program evaluation, social or behavioral research, community-based research, human services, social impact, or a related field.

• Demonstrated experience conducting one-on-one interviews, focus groups, listening sessions, or other qualitative research with people—not simply analyzing datasets or survey results.

• Exceptional emotional intelligence and the ability to build trust quickly with people from different backgrounds and lived experiences.

• Strong active-listening and interviewing skills, including the ability to ask meaningful follow-up questions and navigate emotionally sensitive conversations with care.

• Experience working with or conducting research involving underserved, historically marginalized, vulnerable, or trauma-impacted communities.

• Strong qualitative analysis skills, including coding, thematic analysis, synthesis, and identifying patterns across individual experiences.

• Ability to translate complex human experiences into insights while preserving the voice and dignity of the people behind the information.

• Comfort working with quantitative data and using it to complement qualitative findings.

• Strong written communication, presentation, collaboration, and critical-thinking skills.

• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.

• Proficiency with Microsoft 365; experience with Salesforce or similar CRM platforms is helpful.

A bachelor's degree in social science research, sociology, psychology, public policy, evaluation, data analytics, or a related field is preferred. We also value relevant professional and lived experience and encourage candidates with nontraditional backgrounds to apply.

You understand that interviewing someone about their experiences—particularly experiences involving foster care, instability, trauma, or systems that may have failed them—requires judgment, humility, empathy, and trust.

And once you've listened, you're able to step back, identify patterns, connect those experiences with other information, and communicate what you've learned in a way that helps an organization make better decisions.

This is not a traditional data analyst position. If your experience is primarily in dashboards, database administration, business intelligence, or quantitative reporting without significant experience conducting interviews or qualitative research with people, this role is unlikely to be the right fit.

Pay Range: $74,000–$76,000 per year
