Arlington Heights School District 25 has an opening for a full time (1.0 FTE) Transportation Specialist. This is a 12-month, IMRF position. Start Date: November 30, 2026 Salary: $42,738.00 / year

The job of Transportation Specialist was established to manage the logistical complexity of moving students safely; to organize all student transportation services to ensure efficient and compliant transportation for students; to control costs; and navigate strict Department of Transportation safety laws. The specialist serves as an essential liaison who coordinates specialized student accommodations and resolves parental concerns.

Reports To: Assistant Superintendent for Business/CSBO

Essential Functions

• Oversee student transportation for regular education, special services, and parochial school students;
• Communicate effectively and handle all transportation issues from parents, staff, community, and governmental agencies;
• Work closely with each school administrator and administrative assistant, and the PTA safety representative;
• Act as liaison between District 25 and transportation companies and other transportation vendors as needed;
• Develop annual cost efficient bus routes based on student registrations with transportation software program;
• Arrange summer school transportation;
• Coordinate bus evacuation drills and safety programs with schools;
• Arrange all District co-curricular and extra curricular transportation;
• Manage transportation records, invoices, contracts and state reimbursement documents;
• Prepare and submit state transportation claims through ISBE;
• Review IDOT approved safety hazards;
• Conduct walking-distance analyses for specific families to determine accurate travel distances between residences and assigned schools;
• Administer the Crossing Guard program, including recommendations for hiring, training, scheduling, and submitting payroll timesheet information;
• Maintain database system for all students using district transportation;
• Purchase necessary transportation, crossing guard and student safety supplies;
• Assume other duties as may be assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for Business/CSBO.

Minimum Qualifications

• Computer skills (word processing, database and spread sheet); willingness to learn the Versatrans, Powerschool Enrollment and Skyward Q Software Systems;
• Possess strong typing and/or keyboarding skills;
• Possess the ability to read maps and recognize community boundaries;
• Have the ability to organize projects and assume responsibility for completion;
• Possess excellent public relations skills;
• Have the ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple projects at one time;
• Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Engage in ongoing and regular professional development aimed at growth and development

Working Environment & Conditions

• The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting (should be able to lift up to 30 pounds), carrying, pushing, pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity.
• The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and is generally a hazard-free environment.

Education and Experience

• Minimum of a high school diploma; experience in a public school system is recommended; familiarity with Versatrans, Powerschool Enrollment and Skyward Q Software Systems a plus.
