The role requires treatment of 5-6 ventilators and 35 treatments within a 12-hour shift. Certifications required include BLS, ACLS, and PALS; if NICU experience is present, NRP certification is also needed. Types of patients include adults, pediatrics, and neonates (if NICU trained). Travelers will attend all deliveries and cesarean sections. The coverage areas include inpatient settings and a freestanding emergency department, which is a 15-minute drive away. May require floating to the emergency department. Two years of experience is acceptable for first-time travelers. Duties include drawing and analyzing ABGs, administering treatments, and adjusting ventilator settings. Travelers are not required to intubate independently but must assist. An intensivist is available in-house 24/7. A Charge RRT is present on each shift. Travelers will not be the only RT in-house at the main location but may be the only RT in the freestanding emergency department. Equipment used includes Vent-Avea, Hamilton C1, Bipap-V60, EV300, HiFlow-Aerovo 2, and backup Zoll vents. A Glidescope and Glidescope-GO are available for intubation assistance. Scheduling may not guarantee a block schedule, but attempts will be made to accommodate. Every other weekend work is required. Travelers will work two of three major holidays. There may be a call or standby call requirement under "low census." Scrub color is black. Unit/department-specific orientation includes one day each for neonatal, emergency department, ICU, and floor training. Cancellation policy allows for cancellation of hours equivalent to guaranteed weekly hours for the assignment. The charting system used is EPIC. BSN is not required. Trauma level is 2. The care setting is acute. Division: Allied.
