Nursing Instructor

Nursing Instructor We are seeking a qualified Nursing Instructor to teach and support students in a Career and Technical Education setting. The instructor will plan, deliver, and assess classroom instruction for nursing courses while providing clinical supervision and faculty service. General Responsibilities Under direction of the school principal, plan and provide appropriate learning experiences for students. Provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student. Supervise students in a variety of school‑related settings, monitor and evaluate student outcomes, maintain appropriate records, and ensure safe use of equipment. Essential Functions Plan a program of study that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of students. On a regular and consistent basis, meet and instruct assigned classes at the designated locations and times. Create a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives. Provide an instructional program to meet the needs of all students. Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of the immediate superior. Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and related activities. Establish learning objectives consistent with an appraisal of student needs and the VBCPS curriculum framework. Plan for and utilize instructional methods, resources, and evaluation techniques that motivate and enable each student to achieve learning objectives. Take all necessary and safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, VBCPS policy, and administrative regulation. Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct and develop reasonable classroom behavior rules, maintaining order fairly and justly. Make provisions for being available to students and parents for education‑related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested. Establish relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community that reflect recognition of and respect for every individual. Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher assistants and volunteers. Appraise own effectiveness and apply skills and information to increase effectiveness, striving to maintain and improve professional competence. Participate in school management and share responsibility for the total school program. Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Perform other duties as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of VBCPS curriculum and techniques for integrating curriculum, VBCPS policies, and effective instructional practices; thorough understanding of the teaching and learning process; ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education; ability to infuse technology into curriculum; ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office, school‑based staff, students, parents, and community; excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills. Minimum Requirements Qualified candidates must be currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Virginia with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. If a BSN is not held at the time of hire, the candidate must hold an associate degree and be actively enrolled in a baccalaureate program with a degree completion within three years. Must have at least 3 years of recent direct client care experience as a registered nurse. Previous teaching experience is beneficial, and the applicant must possess, or be eligible for, a Virginia teaching license (Technical Professional). Job responsibilities include assisting with program administration, providing student instruction (including hospital/clinical supervision), counseling students, and providing faculty service. Education and Experience Qualified candidates must be currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Virginia with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. Physical Requirements Must have the use of sensory skills to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public using the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Frequent sitting, walking, standing, bending, grasping, fingering, repetitive motion, and reaching. Occasional stooping and kneeling. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds rarely. Requires timely and regular adherence to established work schedules. Must be currently licensed or have a multistate licensure to practice nursing in Virginia as a Registered Nurse. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
