Speech Language Pathologist

Purpose of the Position: The Speech Language Pathologist will provide therapeutic services to children with language, speech, or hearing disorders and to consult classroom teachers and parents on how to appropriately help the child progress in his/her communicative development. Duties / Responsibilities Therapy-Specific Duties: Conduct individual and/or group therapy sessions within the classroom setting for children with language, speech, or hearing disorders. Conduct individual and/or group therapy sessions within the classroom setting for augmentative communication users who attend the UAH Early Learning Center. Use standardized tests in order to diagnose children with speech and language disorders as well as determine the child's eligibility for therapy. Provide consultative services to classroom teachers and parents in order to inform them of communicative development skills, augmentative communication, and other procedures to help children develop age-appropriate communication. Conduct parent conferences upon request and at designated times during the school year. Collect data, write reports, and maintain records to determine the child's communicative progress. Provide summaries and interpretations of the data to parents and teachers for consultation purposes and/or to report progress. Provide suggestions for incorporation of speech/language and augmentative communication strategies in the classroom. Ensure that all augmentative communication equipment is up to date and in working order. Maintain an inventory of augmentative communication equipment. Train teachers to use augmentative communication equipment for problem-solving activities and incorporate modeling of AAC use during class time. Lead AAC evaluations for students as needed. Attend conferences and workshops as required. Keep the director informed in advance of program needs and parent concerns. Report to the Assistant Director of Curriculum and Instruction any special needs or problems of individual children. Maintain communication with families via telephone calls, daily/weekly check sheets, weekly/monthly/quarterly progress reports, conferences, and written notes. Document each child's performance and progress, assisting teachers with teaching strategies and documentation as needed. Administrative Duties: Serve as the primary liaison between RISE, contracted therapy providers, families, and school staff to coordinate special education-related services. Manage scheduling and coordination of contracted speech-language, occupational, physical, behavioral, music, and other related therapy services for students with disabilities, including Early Intervention services. Collaborate with campus administrators, special education staff, and therapy providers to ensure services are delivered in accordance with students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Monitor therapist caseloads, schedules, and service delivery to ensure compliance with RISE requirements. Coordinate communication regarding schedule changes, student availability, provider assignments, and service interruptions to minimize disruptions in student services. Maintain accurate service schedules, provider assignments, and documentation to support compliance, reporting, and auditing requirements. Serve as the central point of contact for contracted therapy providers regarding service delivery, attendance, documentation, and operational concerns. Work collaboratively with special education teams to resolve scheduling conflicts and ensure timely provision of related services. Assist in onboarding contracted providers by communicating RISE procedures, campus expectations, and compliance requirements. Track therapy service completion and follow up on missed or make-up sessions to support IEP implementation. Coordinate with school personnel to ensure appropriate space, resources, and scheduling accommodations for therapy sessions. Maintain effective working relationships with families, school staff, administrators, and contracted providers to support student success. Review service documentation for completeness and compliance with RISE, state, and federal guidelines. Generate reports related to provider schedules, service delivery, and compliance to support program oversight and decision-making. Provide responsive customer service by addressing questions and resolving issues related to contracted therapy services and scheduling. Perform other duties as assigned. Be familiar with and follow all UAH and ELC policies. Attend regular staff planning and evaluation meetings. Be on time and prepared to work your scheduled shift. Treat colleagues with respect; willingly communicate with team members; display a positive attitude; maintain confidentiality. Treat parents with respect and make parents feel welcome at school. Qualifications Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology. Must have at least 1 year of full-time, verifiable experience working with children ages birth to six years with speech and language disorders. Must have experience working with children with a variety of disabilities. Experience with implementing, evaluating, and instructing the use of augmentative communication devices is required. Must possess organization and time management skills. Must have the ability to collaborate with teachers, staff, and administration. Must be able to accurately complete records, data, progress notes, etc. in a timely manner. Must be able to meet DHR License-Exempt qualifications. Desired Qualifications A valid certificate in Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association is preferred/experience supervising university students is desired. 3 or more years of verifiable experience working with children ages birth to six years with speech and language disorders is preferred.
