Clinical Pharmacist Specialist - Perioperative Services

Additional Information About the Role Are you looking for an opportunity to directly impact patient care as a Clinical Pharmacist Specialist? As a specialist, you will provide pharmaceutical services to patients in our Perioperative Services department. In this role, you will provide pharmaceutical expertise, enhance medication use workflows and optimize the value, safety, and quality of patient care throughout the surgical continuum. Additionally, you will closely collaborate with multiple departments including the Departments of Anesthesiology, Surgery, Perioperative Services and Pharmacy. PGY1 residency required, PGY2 residency preferred. The pharmacy at Barnes‑Jewish uses an integrated practice model with more unit‑based positions. Department staff has access to drug information resources and an on‑site drug information center. Role Purpose Evaluates and recommends appropriate drug therapy to achieve optimal, cost‑effective patient outcomes by working directly with physicians, other health professionals, and patients. Participates in the development, provision, and evaluation of comprehensive pharmaceutical care and quality assurance programs through scholarly activities. Serves as a resource to the pharmacy staff and other hospital departments. Responsibilities Assess the overall status of the patient’s health condition and evaluate medication profile for optimal patient outcomes. Monitor therapy and goals of care. Document all activities and communication as appropriate. Participate in professional development and research activities. Contribute to performance improvement, clinical effectiveness, drug use evaluation, and HSO/BJC committee activities. Educate and train pharmacy staff, residents and students, and serve as a role model and mentor. Identify and implement targeted drug cost‑reduction programs.
