Job Summary

Professional Safety Solutions, LLC is seeking an experienced Underground Utility Heavy Civil Field Safety Advisor to join our team for an underground utility project in San Diego, CA. This role will be critical in ensuring the safety of our workforce by providing expert safety guidance, support, and leadership on all safety-related matters. The ideal candidate will focus on enhancing the safety culture, compliance, and proactive risk management strategies to maintain a safe and productive work environment.

Description

As a Health and Safety Professional at ProSafe, you will operate in a consultative role, advising and supporting both operations management and field teams on safety practices. Additionally, you will be an active, hands-on leader in the field, delivering safety programs, tracking safety performance, and fostering a culture of safety excellence. The Underground Utility Heavy Civil Field Safety Advisor will be a pivotal figure in ensuring daily safety operations run smoothly and safely, while addressing and mitigating safety risks unique to underground utility construction projects.

Job Responsibilities

• Daily Safety Documentation and Communication: Track and document daily safety performance, safety observations, and incidents. Communicate safety progress effectively with project teams, contractors, and management.
• Team Coverage: Oversee the safety of the workforce on-site, ensuring there is adequate safety team coverage and that safety protocols are followed throughout the project.
• Incident Investigations: Lead the investigation of any safety incidents, conduct root cause analysis, and recommend corrective and preventive actions to mitigate future risks.
• Weekly Project Meetings: Attend and actively participate in weekly project meetings, providing updates on safety issues, observations, and concerns.
• Pre-Con Safety Support: Assist in the preparation for the start of construction by ensuring that safety protocols, equipment, and training are in place and aligned with regulatory and company standards.
• Safety Observations and Reporting: Conduct daily safety walkthroughs, identify hazards, and document safety observations to ensure the safety of all personnel involved in underground utility work.
• Compliance Enforcement: Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and local safety standards, and provide guidance to workers to maintain a safe working environment.
• Safety Culture Promotion: Actively engage with employees and contractors to foster a culture of safety, promoting awareness and training to reduce risks and prevent accidents.

Job Qualifications

• Experience: At least 10 years of experience in underground utility safety or heavy civil construction, specifically with trenching, excavation, and underground utility projects.
• Certifications: Current CUSP (Certified Utility Safety Professional) certification required.
• Training: Minimum of OSHA 30-hour certification or equivalent.
• Skills: Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to lead safety discussions and engage the workforce at all levels.
• Safety Culture Development: Experience in developing, implementing, and maintaining a positive safety culture in a construction environment, with an emphasis on safety education and hazard recognition.
• Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of the unique hazards associated with underground utility work, including excavation safety, trenching, and working in confined spaces.
• Problem Solving: Ability to assess complex safety situations, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions effectively.
• Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry standards related to underground utility construction, trenching, and excavation safety.
