Overview JOB DESCRIPTION Sample Receiving and Microbiology Analyst DEPARTMENT: Laboratory EXEMPTION STATUS: Non-exempt / Hourly POSITION LOCATION: Virginia, MN POSITION STATUS: Part Time - MONDAY - Thursday 12p.m- 6p.m Responsibilities Duties include receipt of client samples, unpacking coolers of containers and logging samples into a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Work in the microbiology laboratory to assist with basic water sample testing for coliform bacteria. Follow standard operating procedures and perform computer data entry with attention to detail; ability to multitask. Lift up to 50 pounds as needed. Receive environmental samples from clients and perform data entry into LIMS. Distribute sampling supplies to clientele and field personnel. Maintain confidential sample and client information in LIMS. Education & Experience Experience in a laboratory setting is welcomed. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to observe and demonstrate measurable or observable behavior during cognitive or manual activities (e.g., word processing). Quality control and quality assurance understanding. Safety conscious. Express ideas clearly, concisely, and effectively, orally and in writing. Exercise appropriate judgment in answering questions and releasing information. Communicate effectively with a variety of individuals representing diverse cultures and backgrounds. Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work. Working Conditions Exposure to sulfuric acid, nitric acid, potassium iodide and starch solution; safety measures must be followed. Environment involves frequent walking, standing, bending, and twisting; lifting and carrying objects up to 50 lbs; occasional sitting and repetitive use of hands to operate instruments, computers, printers, copiers.
