Tax Director

About the Opportunity
We are partnering with a leading investment firm to hire a Tax Director focused primarily on management company tax. This individual will play a key role within the tax function, overseeing tax matters across the firm’s management company and related entities while partnering closely with senior leadership, Finance, Legal, and external advisors. The ideal candidate will bring 8+ years of relevant tax experience with deep expertise in management company taxation within an asset management, private equity, hedge fund, credit, or similar investment environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all aspects of tax compliance, planning, and reporting for the management company and related operating entities.
- Oversee federal, state, and local tax matters across partnerships, corporations, and other entities within the management company structure.
- Manage tax matters related to partner compensation, guaranteed payments, carried interest, incentive arrangements, and other employee and partner-related tax considerations.
- Review tax returns, estimates, extensions, K-1s, and other tax filings prepared internally or by external providers.
Ideal Background
- 8+ years of tax experience with significant management company tax exposure.
- Strong understanding of partnership taxation and the tax considerations specific to investment management businesses.
- Experience within an asset manager, private equity firm, hedge fund, credit manager, family office, or public accounting firm serving investment management clients.
- Experience overseeing complex management company structures and partner-related tax matters.
- Strong technical foundation across federal, state, and local taxation.
- Ability to operate at both a technical and strategic level while managing day-to-day tax responsibilities.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with senior executives and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Experience managing external tax advisors and service providers.
- CPA and/or advanced tax degree preferred.
