Job Opportunity

Position Overview

This position involves delivering occupational therapy services to outpatient populations, including assessment, treatment, and care, while also engaging in educational instruction with patients and their families. The Occupational Therapist will utilize competencies in interpreting patient self-reports, behaviors, and understanding the cognitive, physical, emotional, and developmental maturation processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Obtain comprehensive patient medical and social histories, along with current status information.
• Evaluate each patient as directed by the ordering physician and create individualized care plans.
• Administer therapeutic treatments using physical agents, biomechanical and neurophysiological principles, and assistive devices to relieve pain, restore function, and prevent disability following injury, disease, or surgery.
• Continuously assess the patient's status, modify treatment programs as necessary, and document all relevant information using electronic medical records.
• Educate patients and their families regarding the treatment plan and associated procedures.
• Complete billing procedures for services provided daily.
• Utilize techniques such as heat, electricity, water, massage, and exercise in patient care.
• Prepare reports including evaluations, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
• Provide direction to supporting staff involved in occupational therapy patient care.
• Effectively organize daily workloads and manage time for self and assisting staff.
• Monitor the safety and effectiveness of all patient care equipment and the work environment, promptly reporting any deficiencies.

Education & Experience Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association preferred, with approval by the State of Washington Occupational Therapy Examining Committee.
• Advanced degree or training preferred.
• Active, or eligible to obtain, a Washington state Occupational Therapist license.
• One year of outpatient care experience preferred.
• Experience in hand therapy and splinting preferred.
• Able to evaluate and provide care across all age groups, including school-age children, young adults, middle-aged adults, and geriatric patients.

Physical Requirements

• Occasional standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, crouching, stooping, pushing, and pulling.
• Considerable physical activity requiring heavy physical work, including lifting, pushing, or pulling objects up to 50 pounds.
• Manual dexterity and mobility with good visual acuity for accurate patient assessment and use of documentation tools.
• Strong mental faculties to perform assessments and decision-making in patient management.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with a diverse audience, including physicians, nurses, other healthcare professionals, patients, families, and the public.

Additional Information

Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (HCP) level certification is required to be completed within three months of hire.
