Radiology Nurse Job

Essential Functions

Evaluates and manages patients' needs in radiology, keeping them informed of medication procedure. Offers emotional support.

Administer medications, including injections and IV's. Document patient vitals and medications ordered per clinic policy. Participate in patient instructions for CT appointments and any other radiology exams as needed.

Assist with flow of patients through area to enhance efficiency while maintaining patient comfort. Recognize and respond to emergency situations as appropriate.

Demonstrate an awareness of self-responsibility and accountability for one's own professional practice. Maintain current CPR certification, CEU's, and licensure.

Radiology nurses cover the entire Radiology department, and work with multiple modalities.

Fluoroscopy: Premeditate patients with an iodine allergy who are receiving contrasted joint injections.

Place urinary catheters for cystograms on adult and pediatric patients. Monitor patients post myelogram and lumbar puncture procedures.

Nuclear medicine/PET: Give morphine to hydascan patients when needed. (requires RN to calculate dose and confirm with Radiologist before going upstairs to administer). Help start difficult IVs for Pet patients when needed.

MRI: Give IV or Oral anxiolysis medications to claustrophobic patients. If IV the nurse must monitor the patient for the length of the MRI exam, inside the MRI control room.

Start IVs on all contrast MRI patients. Premedicate for MRI contrast allergies. Treat MRI allergies. Evaluate GFR value for safe contrast administration. Provide care, education and follow-up for infiltration of IVs. Educate, research and interview MRI patients concerning their implants. Provide post care to Breast biopsy patients.

Manage the use of narcotics within the modalities of CT/MRI/and Nuclear Medicine

Requirements

Required Education and Experience: Graduate of an accredited school of registered nursing. Current Florida RN License, current CPR certification, ACLS within 90 days of hire/transfer.

Preferred Education and Experience: Preferably experienced in conscious sedation.
