Wind Technician I

$28.5 - $34.21 per hour

This is a skilled position in the maintenance and repair of wind turbine mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems. Location: North Palm Springs, CA. The address is 19435 Ruppert St., North Palm Springs, CA 92258. Applicants must live in the area, or be willing to move, and have a valid driver’s license. The person holding this position is responsible for safe operation and maintenance of wind turbine generation equipment. Duties & responsibilities Conduct all work activities in a professional, environmentally conscious, and safe manner. Assure operational efficiency, unit reliability and compliance with safety and environmental standards. Maintain and complete tactical processes in a team oriented, multi-discipline environment. Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair wind turbine generation equipment. Carry out troubleshooting and repair activities to ensure that wind turbine generation equipment work at the optimum levels. Perform general and preventative maintenance on generators, pitch systems, yaw systems, cooling systems, and other wind turbine support systems. Perform predictive, preventive and corrective maintenance. Ability to troubleshoot and correct mechanical issues with gearboxes, pumps and other rotating equipment. Complete other tasks as requested by the Lead Technician or Facilities Manager. Maintains adherence to company policies, safety standards and good housekeeping practices. Ability to perform inspections of safety equipment, vehicles, personal protective equipment, and plant equipment. Must be timely and track time accurately. Qualifications Must be able to pass a background check, physical exam, and drug/alcohol screening. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Good decision‑making skills. Proven planning and interpersonal skills. Capability to multi‑task and prioritize work. Ability to handle constantly evolving and emerging work priorities and schedules. Ability to understand and read electrical drawings and to read, write and comprehend technical information. Good digital literacy including Microsoft Office and other computer‑based efficiency tools. Demonstrates decision making abilities, long term developmental capabilities and networking skills. Must have an unrestricted driver’s license and speak English. Must meet the weight requirements for the safety equipment and wind turbine equipment (265 lbs., which includes the weight of all climbing gear). Education High School Diploma or GED required. Technical Qualifications Ability to work in mechanically and electrically oriented situations. Knowledge of basic electrical testing equipment, commonly used bolts and torque values. Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Attention to detail and strong interpersonal skills. Must be able to work collaboratively with various partners. Work under pressure, remaining focused and calm in the face of distractions. Possess high safety and environmental awareness. Ability to optimally communicate and interact with diverse groups. Ability to continuously learn and adapt to change. Troubleshoot complicated mechanical and electrical problems on variable pitch, variable speed turbines. The employee is frequently exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to hazardous chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must be capable of lifting and/or moving up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Requires climbing ladders, standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, and climbing stairs to inspect, or collect data on plant equipment. Outdoor conditions may run from mildly cold to extremely hot. Will work in confined spaces, dust, grease & oil and be exposed to loud noise. Requires wearing personal protective safety equipment (respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs, etc.). Must have the ability to work at elevated spaces and be able to climb a 300-foot tower ladder daily. Ability to work in all weather conditions. Must be able to operate power tools such as grease guns, impact guns and rotating saws. Must have the ability to operate hand tools such as wrenches, pliers and screwdrivers. Working Schedule Winter: 6 am‑2:30 pm (overtime required when needed) Summer: 5 am‑1:30 pm (overtime required when needed) Revolving on-call weekend shifts required The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $28.50 and $34.21 per hour; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position also includes annual bonus.
