Faculty Opportunities in Cardiovascular Medicine

About the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine

The Department of Cardiovascular Medicine has seen significant growth, now comprising 33 faculty physicians across various specialties, including Electrophysiology, Advanced Heart Failure, Interventional Cardiology, and General Cardiology. Additionally, we support 32 fellows in our program, with 26 in General Cardiology, 3 in Advanced Heart Failure, and 3 in Interventional Cardiology. Faculty members benefit from robust institutional support and infrastructure, including access to four hospitals and numerous outpatient clinics throughout the region.

We are dedicated to fostering a positive, stable, and efficient work environment. The selected candidates will engage in collaborative and intellectually enriching interactions with fellow faculty, residents, and staff. While interest and experience in clinical research are advantageous, they are not mandatory.

Open Faculty Positions

• General Cardiologist

  We are looking for a General Cardiologist to join our dynamic academic cardiology practice at the Assistant Professor level or higher (all academic ranks are welcome). The successful candidate will play a vital role in our expanding cardiology program and will be part of a well-organized practice.

  Responsibilities include educating and mentoring residents, fellows, and medical students. Candidates must be board certified (or board eligible) in ABIM and have completed a General Cardiology Fellowship. A valid, unrestricted Texas state medical license is also required. Experience in clinical research is a plus but not essential.

• Heart Failure-Transplant Cardiologist

  We seek an advanced Heart Failure and VAD/Transplant Cardiologist to join our esteemed academic cardiology practice at the Assistant level or higher (all academic ranks are welcome). The successful candidate will be an essential part of our growing department and the Sealy Heart and Vascular Institute (SHVI), engaging in both inpatient and outpatient clinical duties within a thriving Heart Transplant and VAD program.

  Candidates should be board certified or eligible in ABIM, have completed a structured heart failure fellowship, and be able to secure a valid Texas state medical license. Experience in clinical research trials is advantageous but not required.

• Advanced Cardiac-Imaging Cardiologist

  We are in search of an Advanced Cardiac Imaging Cardiologist to join our academic cardiology practice at the Assistant Professor level or higher (all academic ranks are welcome). The ideal candidate will possess experience in multimodality imaging and must have completed Level 3 fellowship training in Cardiac MRI and Cardiac CT. Experience in structural echocardiography is preferred, along with board certifications in Echocardiography and Nuclear Cardiology.

  The successful candidate will be a key member of the Sealy Heart & Vascular Institute (SHVI) and will focus primarily on advanced cardiac imaging, including cardiac MRI and CT, with limited inpatient consultative responsibilities and a modest presence in outpatient clinics.

• Interventional Cardiologist

  We are looking for an Interventional Cardiologist to join our expanding academic cardiology practice (all academic ranks are welcome). The successful candidate will be a crucial part of our department and the Sealy Heart and Vascular Institute (SHVI), working in a well-managed, high-quality cardiology practice with a significant Cath Lab procedural volume.

  In addition to coronary interventional skills, proficiency in endovascular interventions is highly desired, especially for candidates experienced in treating PAD. Additional expertise in areas such as CHIP (Complex and High-Risk PCI), interventional heart failure, or catheter-based pulmonary embolism interventions is preferred. Our department also hosts an ACGME-accredited Interventional Cardiology Fellowship program training three fellows annually.

• Electrophysiology Cardiologist

  We are actively seeking an Electrophysiology Cardiologist at any academic rank for our expanding division. The successful candidate will be an integral part of our growing team and will work in a well-managed, multifaceted cardiology practice with a substantial EP procedural volume.

  Our division is rapidly growing, currently comprising over 25 physicians, and benefits from the excellent infrastructure provided by our organization, including four hospitals and numerous health clinics. The successful candidate will be expected to enhance our clinical programs and provide care to patients across all campuses, including the main campus in Galveston and the Clear Lake satellite location.

All faculty members will be expected to mentor residents, fellows, and medical students who rotate through the program. Candidates must be board certified (or board eligible) in ABIM and in Cardiac Electrophysiology (EP) and have completed a General Cardiology Fellowship. A valid, unrestricted Texas state medical license is also required.
