Each server's primary objective is to provide proper table service to dining guests in a timely and efficient fashion.Activities & ResponsibilitiesPrimaryPromote, work, and act in a manner consistent with the mission of Smithfield Station: It is the mission of Smithfield Station and its associates to provide absolutely the most enjoyable eating and sleeping experience possible to our patrons through outstanding service, superb product and great personalities in a unique, comfortable setting…every day…RIGHT NOW!!Monitor and observe guests dining experience to ensure guests are satisfied with the food and service, and respond promptly and courteously to correct any problemsPresent menus to guests and answer questions about menu items, beverages, and other restaurant functions and servicesInform guests of menu changes and daily specials, and make recommendations you genuinely feel your guests will enjoyExplain to guests how various menu items are prepared, describing ingredients and cooking methodsDescribe and recommend wines to guestsTake food or beverages orders from guestsWrite guests' food orders on order slips or memorize orders, then enter orders into computers for transmittal to kitchen staffCheck guests' identification to ensure they meet minimum age requirements for consumption of alcoholic beveragesServe food and beverages to guests, and prepare or serve specialty dishes at tables as requiredPrepare checks that itemize and total meal costs and sales taxesCollect cash, credit card, and gift card payments from guestsClean tables or counters after guests have finished diningPrepare hot, cold, and mixed drinks for guests, and chill bottles of wineRoll silverware, set up food stations and/or dining areas to prepare for the next shift or for large partiesStock service areas with supplies such as coffee, food, tableware, and linensPrepare tables for meals, including setting up items such as linens, silverware, and glasswareRemove dishes and glasses from tables or counters, and take them to kitchen for cleaningAssist host or hostess by answering phones to take reservations or to-go orders, and by greeting, seating, and thanking guestsPerform cleaning duties, such as sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming carpet, tidying up server station, taking out trash, and checking and cleaning bathroomBring wine selections to tables with appropriate glasses and pour the wine for guestsPerform food preparation duties such as preparing salads for large parties/groups, portioning desserts, and brewing coffeeEscort guests to their tablesFill salt, pepper, and sugarThank guests for their visit and invite them to returnAttend all scheduled employee meetings and offer suggestions for improvementCoordinate with and assist fellow employees to meet guests' needs and support the operation of the restaurantFill in for fellow employees where needed to ensure guest service standards and efficient operationsSupplementalProvide guests with information about local areas, including giving directionsTools & TechnologyCash registersCommercial use coffee and/or iced tea makersCommercial use cutleryCredit card processing machinesPoint-of-sale receipt printersPoint-of-sale terminals and workstationsTouch screen monitorsPoint-of-sale software (Hospitality Control Solutions Aloha Point-of-Sale)RequirementsMinimum QualificationsBe 18 years of age or olderReliable transportation to and from workBasic knowledge of dining room and service procedures and functionsBasic mathematical skillsAble to understand and speak clearly using the predominant language(s) of guestsAble to handle money and operate a point-of-sale systemAble to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours)Able to safely lift and easily maneuver trays of food and containers weighing up to 50 pounds
