Responsibilities

Provide direct nursing care to all patient populations as an OB Resource unit RN (L&D, postpartum-newborn, OR, PACU, antepartum, triage; general and moderate care level of nursing care. This position has the triage and antepartum population back up to OR (subject to change). Identify and assess the orientation, continuing education, inservice and developmental needs of the nursing staff. Investigate, design, evaluate and modify as necessary unit orientation, inservice and continuing education programs in collaboration with the VVWH leadership team. Conduct individual and group educational programs for unit nursing staff. Assist in the design, implementation and evaluation of hospital-wide orientation, inservice education and staff development programs. Provide consultation in the area of clinical and educational expertise to nursing staff. In collaboration with the unit leadership team and Unit-based Committee, assist in the annual development of nursing competency requirements, coordinate VVWH blitz, and oversee completion and maintenance of records/documentation. Oversee VVWH orientation program, including scheduling, preceptor training and development, orientee performance feedback, completion and maintenance of orientation records/documentation, etc. Represent the VVWH on unit, nursing and hospital-wide committees. Participate in the unit quality improvement plan; perform audits and coaching related to QI initiatives. Required Qualifications

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan; Bachelors Degree in Nursing or an equivalent combination of education and experience; Five (5) or more years R.N. experience in labor and delivery. 3 years minimum in each of the antepartum and triage areas. 3 years of experience in the operating room/PACU. Education experience, blitz, inservices. Demonstrated current clinical expertise in the nursing care of normal and high-risk perinatal patient. Current or ability to obtain specialty certification within 1 year (EFM, RNC- OB, MNN). Successful completion of the AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course. Ability to successfully complete the AWHONN Fetal Monitoring and AHA Neonatal Resuscitation Instructor Courses within 9-12 months. Ability to successfully complete STABLE course within 12 months. Able to flex hours for inservices and blitz. Involvement in unit committees/councils/projects etc. Preceptor minimum 3 years. Minimum 3 years TL experience.

Desired Qualifications

Charge nurse experience preferred. Successful completion of the AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring Course. Ability to design, implement and evaluate educational/orientation programs within prescribed timelines. Knowledge/skills in Microsoft products. Knowledge of UMHS policies, procedures and practices. Outstanding interpersonal skills, excellent problem-solving skills, ability to provide direct and effective feedback, and effective conflict resolution skills. Ability to effectively collaborate with multiple individuals/disciplines while effectively advocating for patient care needs/wishes. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, to both individuals and groups. Ability to facilitate change, direct nursing practice, and evaluate outcomes. Ability to work in an independent, self-directed manner that achieves reliable outcomes within pre-determined timelines.

Salary & Nursing Framework Level

This UMPNC RN posting is posted under the Role-Specific Advancement Model (RSAM) as:ENC- COMPETENT. Actual RSAM LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire. Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position. Posting may be filled after the initial 5-day posting period. Applicants who have left the UMPNC bargaining unit must include on their resume dates of past employment including months and years of service along with effort. Positions less than 20 hours/week may be combined.

Modes of Work

Work Schedule

Hours: 40 hours per week (20% productive; 80% non-productive), (4) 10 hour shifts

Shift: Day shift and evening shifts with the flexibility to meet the needs of the unit on night shifts; Must be able to flex hours for inservices and blitz

May require on-call and weekends per collective bargaining agreement.

Location: Von Voigtlander Women's Hospital

All new employees will be expected to float to a designated unit(s) in times of low census.
