Significant subgroups of PACU patients include General Surgery, Orthopedics, ENT, OB/GYN, Urology, Dental, Podiatry, Vascular, Ophthalmology, Thoracic, Neuro- surgery, Spine and Plastics, as well as cardiology procedures, neurologic procedures, and endoscopy procedures done under general anesthesia. Occasionally PACU staff recover ICU patients post operatively if ICU staffing is critically short. The SMJH follows recommendations for clinical care set forth by the American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses (ASPAN). To qualify, you must have a minimum of 18 months of PACU experience within the last 3 years and hold an active RN license.
